Before brewing your first coffee, it is essential to perform an initial cleaning and system flush. This ensures optimal performance and hygiene.
Video: Precautions for Gevi GECME418E-U Machine in the First Use (Duration: 12:39). This video demonstrates the initial setup, water filling, pre-heating, portafilter insertion, system flushing, and basic cleaning procedures.
Step-by-Step First Use:
- Prepare Water Tank: Remove the water tank from the machine. Locate and remove the small red silicone cover from the valve at the bottom of the tank. This cover protects the valve during shipping.
- Fill Water Tank: Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water up to the MAX level indicated on the tank.
- Insert Water Tank: Carefully insert the filled water tank back into the machine, ensuring it is parallel to the machine and pushed down firmly until it fits securely.
- Power On & Pre-heat: Plug in the machine and press the main power button. The power button light will slowly flash, indicating the machine is pre-heating. Wait until all four buttons illuminate with a solid blue light, signifying the machine is ready.
- First System Flush (Brew Water): Place a jug or cup under the steam wand. Rotate the steam knob to the brew position to release some hot water. This flushes out any manufacturing residues. Once water flows smoothly, rotate the knob back to close.
- Second System Flush (Portafilter): Assemble the portafilter (without coffee) and insert it into the brew unit, rotating it fully to lock. Place a cup under the portafilter. Press the single/short brew button. The machine will perform a pre-infusion, then stop briefly, and resume dispensing. Let it dispense water for a few seconds. Discard this water.
- Final System Flush (Steam Wand): Place a jug or cup under the steam wand again. Rotate the steam knob to the brew position and let all remaining water from the tank brew through the wand. The machine will automatically stop when the water tank is empty and all lights will flash as a visual alarm. Rotate the knob back to the off position.
- Refill Water Tank: Refill the water tank with fresh water. The machine is now ready for brewing.

- Fill Portafilter: Add the ground coffee to the appropriate filter basket in the portafilter. Tamp the coffee evenly.
- Insert Portafilter: Insert the portafilter into the brew unit and rotate it firmly to lock it in place.
- Place Cup: Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray under the portafilter.
- Brew: Press the single/short brew button for a single espresso (25-60ml) or the double/long brew button for a double espresso (60-130ml). The machine will automatically stop when the programmed volume is reached.
4.2 Frothing Milk

Figure 4: The 360° swivel action steam wand creates perfectly textured microfoam.
- Prepare Steam Wand: Ensure the machine is pre-heated. Place the milk frothing jug (filled with cold milk) under the steam wand.
- Activate Steam: Rotate the steam knob to the steam position. Allow a few seconds for the steam wand to heat up and release any condensed water.
- Froth Milk: Submerge the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk. Move the jug slowly up and down to create microfoam.
- Stop Steaming: Once desired foam consistency and temperature are reached, rotate the steam knob back to the off position.
- Clean Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue.
4.3 Customizing Brew Volume
The machine has factory default settings for single (25-60ml) and double (60-130ml) shot volumes. You can customize these volumes to your preference.
- Enter Programming Mode: With the machine in standby (all lights solid blue), touch and hold both the single/short brew button and the double/long brew button simultaneously for more than 3 seconds. You will hear a beep, and the buttons will start flashing, indicating you are in programming mode.
- Adjust Single Shot Volume: Place a cup under the portafilter. Press the single/short brew button. The machine will start dispensing. When the desired volume is reached, press the single/short brew button again to stop. The machine will emit three beeps, confirming the new volume is saved.
- Adjust Double Shot Volume: To adjust the double shot volume, repeat the process but press the double/long brew button to start and stop.
- Reset to Factory Default: If you wish to revert to factory settings, touch and hold all three brew buttons (single, double, and manual) simultaneously for more than 3 seconds. The machine will emit five successive beeps, and the lights will pulse, indicating a successful reset.

- Empty Grinds Container: Empty and place the grinds container under the powder outlet.
- Grind Remaining: Start grinding. Tap the bean hopper until all beans are completely ground. Then stop grinding.
- Clean Residual Powder: Take out the grinds container. Place the silicone lid under the grinder powder outlet to collect residual powder.
- Brush Clean: Tilt the grinder. Clean the deepest part of the powder outlet with the straw cleaning brush.
- Wipe Outlet: Tap the top of the grinder and bean hopper lightly. Then close the grinds container lid. Use a dry cloth to wipe the outlet and surrounding area.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Gevi espresso machine, try these common troubleshooting steps:
- No Water Flow: Check if the water tank is properly inserted and filled. Ensure the silicone cover from the tank valve has been removed.
- Machine Not Heating: Verify the machine is plugged in and the power button is on. Allow sufficient time for pre-heating (all buttons should be solid blue).
- Grinder Not Working: Ensure the bean hopper is correctly seated and locked. Check for any bean blockages.
- Weak Espresso: Adjust grind size to a finer setting. Ensure proper tamping pressure.
- No Foam/Poor Frothing: Ensure the steam wand is clean and not clogged. Use fresh, cold milk.
- Water Leakage: Check that the water tank and drip tray are correctly positioned. Ensure the portafilter is securely locked.
