The Aquastep Pro UV Sterilizer can be installed either in-line with your existing filtration system or as a hang-on unit for your aquarium or reservoir tank.

General Installation Steps:

  1. Placement: Choose a suitable location for the UV sterilizer. For hang-on use, the adjustable clamp allows for a snug fit to the aquarium or reservoir tank. For in-line use, ensure there is enough space for the unit and hose connections.
  2. Pump Requirement: This unit requires an approximate 450 GPH (Gallons Per Hour) pump for optimal performance. Ensure your pump meets this specification.
  3. Hose Connections:
    • The unit has 3/4" FPT (Female Pipe Thread) connections.
    • Use the provided 1/2" hose barb fitting, hose, and hose clamps to connect the unit to your pump and return line.
    • For hang-on installations, the inlet and outlet are at the top.
    • For below aquarium installations (in-line), the inlet and outlet are at the bottom.
    • Apply the provided silicone lubricant to hose barbs for easier and more secure hose attachment.
    • Secure all hose connections with the provided hose clamps to prevent leaks.
  4. Leak Check: Before plugging in the unit, ensure water is flowing through the sterilizer and check for any leaks at all connection points. Tighten clamps as necessary.
  5. Power Connection: Once all connections are secure and leak-free, plug the UV sterilizer into a grounded electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and powered on, the Lifegard Aquatics Aquastep Pro UV Sterilizer will begin its operation. The UV lamp inside the unit will emit ultraviolet light, which sterilizes the water as it passes through.

Clear View Port: The unit features a clear view port. This port allows visible light (not harmful UV light) to pass through, providing a visual indication that the UV lamp is operating correctly. If you do not see light through this port when the unit is plugged in and receiving power, the bulb may need replacement or there may be a power issue.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your UV sterilizer.

UV Lamp Replacement:

The 15 Watt UV lamp has a finite lifespan and its effectiveness diminishes over time. It is recommended to replace the UV lamp annually or as needed to maintain optimal sterilization performance.

  1. Disconnect Power: Always unplug the UV sterilizer from the power outlet before attempting to replace the lamp.
  2. Unique 4-Pin Connector: The Aquastep Pro features a unique 4-pin connector designed for easy bulb replacement without needing to shut down the entire system or drain water from the unit. Carefully disconnect the 4-pin connector from the top of the unit.
  3. Remove Old Lamp: Gently pull the old UV lamp straight out from the unit.
  4. Install New Lamp: Carefully insert the new 15 Watt UV lamp into the unit, ensuring the 4-pin connector aligns correctly. Push firmly until it is seated properly.
  5. Reconnect Power: Reconnect the 4-pin connector and then plug the UV sterilizer back into the power outlet. Verify operation via the clear view port.

Cleaning:

Periodically, the quartz sleeve (which protects the UV lamp from water) may accumulate deposits, reducing UV light penetration. If your unit has a removable quartz sleeve, clean it gently with a soft cloth and a mild acid solution (like vinegar) to remove mineral deposits. Rinse thoroughly before reassembly. Refer to the manufacturer's specific instructions for quartz sleeve removal if applicable.
