Setup
Follow these steps to set up your DMXking eDMX2 MAX adapter:
- Power Connection:
- Power over Ethernet (PoE): Connect a standard Ethernet cable from a PoE-enabled switch or injector to the Ethernet port on the eDMX2 MAX. The device will power on automatically.
- USB Power: Alternatively, connect the supplied USB-C cable to the USB-C port on the eDMX2 MAX and to a USB power source (e.g., computer, USB power adapter).
- Network Connection (for Art-Net/sACN): Connect a standard Ethernet cable from your network switch or router to the Ethernet port on the eDMX2 MAX. Ensure your computer or DMX control software is on the same network.
- USB Connection (for USB DMX): Connect the supplied USB-C cable from the eDMX2 MAX to your computer. The device will be recognized as an ENTTEC Pro compatible DMX interface.
- DMX Device Connection: Connect your DMX lighting fixtures or other DMX-compatible devices to the 3-pin DMX ports (A and B) on the eDMX2 MAX using standard DMX cables. Ensure correct DMX termination if required by your DMX chain.
- Configuration Utility: Download and install the DMXking configuration utility for Windows or Mac OSX from the official DMXking website. This utility is used to configure network settings, DMX universe assignments, and other device parameters.
Operating Instructions
The eDMX2 MAX supports both Ethernet-based DMX (Art-Net/sACN) and USB DMX protocols. The operational mode depends on how the device is connected and configured.
Ethernet DMX (Art-Net/sACN)
- Network Configuration: Use the DMXking configuration utility to set the IP address and subnet mask of the eDMX2 MAX to match your network. The device can be configured for static IP or DHCP.
- Universe Assignment: Assign DMX universes to ports A and B using the configuration utility. For Art-Net, it is common practice to start with Universe 0 for the first universe and Universe 1 for the second.
- DMX Software Setup: In your DMX control software (e.g., QLC+, Lightkey, Onyx), select Art-Net or sACN as the output protocol and configure it to send data to the IP address of your eDMX2 MAX. Ensure the universe assignments in your software match those configured on the device.
- Monitoring: The Link/Act LED indicates network activity, and the Protocol LED indicates DMX data flow.
USB DMX
- Driver Installation: When connecting via USB, your operating system may automatically install necessary drivers. If not, refer to the DMXking website for specific driver information. The device emulates an ENTTEC Pro interface.
- DMX Software Setup: In your DMX control software, select the ENTTEC Pro or compatible USB DMX interface. Note that typically only one DMX universe is available when operating in USB DMX mode.
Note: When using Art-Net protocol, ensure your first universe is set to Universe 0 and your second universe to Universe 1 for proper operation, as noted by some users.
Maintenance
The DMXking eDMX2 MAX is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the DMXking website for firmware updates. Firmware updates can provide new features, performance improvements, or bug fixes. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update utility carefully.
- Storage: When not in use, store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your eDMX2 MAX, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power/LEDs Off:
- Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to a working power source, or that the Ethernet cable is connected to a PoE-enabled switch/injector.
- Verify the power source is active.
- No DMX Output/Input:
- Ethernet DMX:
- Check network connectivity. The Network and Link/Act LEDs should be active.
- Confirm the eDMX2 MAX IP address and subnet mask are correctly configured and match your network.
- Verify DMX universe assignments in the configuration utility and your DMX software. Remember Art-Net often uses Universe 0 and 1.
- Ensure your DMX software is sending data to the correct IP address and port.
- Check DMX cable connections and ensure DMX termination is correctly applied if needed.
- USB DMX:
- Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to your computer.
- Verify that the device is recognized by your operating system and DMX software as an ENTTEC Pro compatible interface.
- Confirm your DMX software is configured to use the USB DMX interface.
- Ethernet DMX:
- Device Not Found by Configuration Utility:
- Ensure the device is powered on and connected to the same network as your computer (for Ethernet configuration).
- Temporarily disable any firewalls or antivirus software that might block network communication.
- Try connecting via USB if Ethernet discovery fails.
