- WARNING: This unit is locked with no serviceable parts. The backup battery is not replaceable. If power is interrupted and the backup battery is dead or missing, maintenance and testing must be performed as indicated below. Exposure to high or low temperature or high humidity may reduce battery life.
- IMPORTANT: This unit can only be interconnected with other compatible smoke, CO, and/or heat alarms up to a maximum limit of 18 total, of which 12 can be smoke alarms. Refer to the user's manual for detailed instructions.

The First Alert SMI105-AC smoke alarm is designed for simple operation and clear alerts:
- Test/Silence Button: Press the large button on the front of the alarm to test its functionality. If the alarm is sounding due to a non-emergency (e.g., cooking smoke), pressing this button will temporarily silence it.
- Alarm Guide:
- 3 Beeps: Indicates a smoke alarm.
- 3 Chirps every Minute: Indicates a malfunction. Replace the alarm.
- 5 Chirps every Minute, LED Flashes 2 sec on/2 sec off: Indicates low battery. Replace the alarm.
- 5 Chirps every Minute, 5 LED Flashes: Indicates end-of-life. Replace the alarm.
