Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the equipment:

  • Disconnect the vehicle's battery negative terminal before beginning any installation.
  • Ensure all wiring is properly insulated and secured to prevent short circuits and damage.
  • Use appropriate gauge wiring for power and ground connections as specified in the installation section.
  • Mount components securely to withstand marine environments and vibrations.
  • Avoid installing components in locations that obstruct safe operation of the vessel.
  • Consult a professional marine audio installer if you are unsure about any part of the installation process.

3. Component Overview

The KMA amplifier is a Class D, 4-channel amplifier providing 500 watts of dynamic power. It features a conformal-coated circuit board for marine use, variable 12dB crossover, and KickEQ variable 6dB bass boost for sound customization.

4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. Refer to the following guidelines for each component.

4.1 KMC2 Receiver Installation

  1. Mounting: The KMC2 is designed to fit into a standard 3-inch gauge opening. Ensure sufficient depth and clearance behind the mounting surface for wiring. Secure the receiver using the supplied mounting hardware.
  2. Power Wiring: Connect the yellow wire to a constant 12V power source, the red wire to a switched 12V accessory source, and the black wire to a reliable ground point. Use appropriate inline fuses as recommended by KICKER.
  3. Speaker Outputs: Connect the KMC2's speaker output wires to the KMFC tower speakers. Note that the KMC2 provides 25W x 4, which is suitable for direct speaker connection, but for full power, it should be used with the KMA amplifier via RCA outputs.
  4. RCA Outputs: Connect the KMC2's full-range RCA outputs to the input of the KMA amplifier.
  5. USB/RCA Inputs: Connect USB devices or external audio sources to the respective inputs.
  6. Remote Control (Optional): If using the KRC12 remote (sold separately), connect it to the designated port on the KMC2.

4.2 KMFC Tower Speakers Installation

  1. Mounting: Use the included 316L stainless steel mounting hardware to securely attach the speakers to your vessel's tower or roll bar. Ensure the mounting location can support the weight of the speakers and withstand marine conditions.
  2. Speaker Wiring: Connect the speaker wires from the KMA amplifier (or KMC2 receiver) to the KMFC speakers, observing correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
  3. LED Wiring: Connect the speaker's LED wires to a 12V power source. The speakers come with a seven-color LED system. For advanced control (20 colors and 19 lighting modes), an optional KMLC remote control is required.

4.3 KMA Amplifier Installation

  1. Mounting: Choose a dry, well-ventilated location for the amplifier, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Secure it using the provided 316L stainless-steel hardware.
  2. Power Connections: Connect the amplifier's power and ground terminals to the battery using ABYC/NMMA-compliant power connections. Ensure proper fusing. Connect the remote turn-on wire to the KMC2's remote output.
  3. Input Connections: Connect the RCA outputs from the KMC2 receiver to the RCA inputs of the KMA amplifier.
  4. Output Connections: Connect the KMFC tower speakers to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. The KMA is a 4-channel amplifier, allowing for individual speaker connections or bridged configurations.
  5. Crossover and Bass Boost: Adjust the variable 12dB crossover and KickEQ variable 6dB bass boost settings on the amplifier to optimize sound quality for your specific setup and preferences. Start with flat settings and make small adjustments.

5. Operating Instructions

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your marine audio system.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of all components. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. The UV-treated and UV-resistant materials are designed to withstand marine environments, but gentle cleaning is recommended.
  • Connection Checks: Periodically inspect all wiring connections for corrosion, looseness, or damage. Ensure all terminals are clean and secure.
  • Weather Protection: While designed for all-weather use, covering the system when not in use or during prolonged storage can further protect it from harsh elements.
