5.1 Basic Diagnostic Functions

  • Read Codes: Select 'Read Codes' from the main menu to retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU). The scanner will display the code and a brief description.
  • Clear Codes: After addressing a vehicle issue, select 'Clear Codes' to erase DTCs from the ECU and turn off the Check Engine Light (MIL). Warning: Do not clear codes before diagnosing and fixing the underlying problem, as this may mask issues.
  • View Freeze Frame: This function displays a snapshot of sensor data recorded by the ECU when an emission-related fault occurred. This data can help identify the conditions under which the fault was set.
  • I/M Readiness Status: Checks the status of the vehicle's emission-related monitoring systems to determine if they are ready for an inspection/maintenance test.
  • Live Data Stream: Displays real-time operational parameters from the vehicle's sensors and components, such as engine RPM, vehicle speed, oxygen sensor readings, and coolant temperature.

5.2 Advanced Diagnostic Functions

  • Oxygen Sensor Test: Retrieves O2 sensor monitoring test results from the vehicle's computer.
  • Component Testing: Allows initiation of a leak test for the vehicle's EVAP system or other component tests as supported by the vehicle.
  • Battery Life Detection / Voltage Monitoring: Provides real-time battery voltage readings and can assess battery health.
