  1. Choose Anchor Points: Select two sturdy, fixed objects (e.g., strong trees, robust posts) that are approximately 200 feet apart and can withstand the force of your dog pulling. Ensure the path between them is clear of hazards.
  2. Install Screw Hooks: Securely screw one open eye screw hook into each chosen anchor point at a height appropriate for your dog (typically chest height). Ensure they are firmly embedded.
  3. Attach Runner Cable (First End): Loop one end of the 200ft runner cable through the eye of one screw hook. Use the provided clamps to create a secure loop.
  4. Attach Turnbuckle: Connect the turnbuckle to the other end of the 200ft runner cable. This will be used to adjust tension.
  5. Thread Pulley and Pre-Stoppers: Before attaching the second end of the runner cable, slide the pulley onto the cable. Then, slide the pre-stoppers onto the cable on either side of where you want your dog's range to be. These stoppers prevent the pulley from traveling too far.
  6. Attach Runner Cable (Second End): Connect the turnbuckle end of the 200ft runner cable to the second screw hook. Use clamps to secure the loop.
  7. Tighten the Cable: Use the turnbuckle to tighten the 200ft runner cable until it is taut and does not sag excessively. Ensure it is high enough to prevent your dog from getting tangled but low enough for the pulley to operate smoothly.
  8. Attach Lead to Pulley: Connect the carabiner clip of the 10ft lead with spring to the pulley.
  9. Final Check: Double-check all connections, clamps, and anchor points to ensure they are secure before attaching your dog.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the Snagle Paw Dog Tie Out Runner System is installed, follow these guidelines for safe and effective use:

  • Attach Your Dog: Securely attach your dog's collar or harness to the aviation aluminum carabiner clip on the 10ft lead. Ensure the clip's safety lock is engaged.
  • Supervision: Always supervise your dog while they are on the tie-out system. This allows you to intervene if they become tangled or encounter any issues.
  • Check Movement Range: Observe your dog's movement to ensure the pre-stoppers are set correctly and prevent them from reaching unsafe areas or getting tangled around obstacles.
  • Water and Shade: Ensure your dog has access to fresh water and shade while using the tie-out system, especially during warm weather.
  • Remove When Not in Use: For safety, remove your dog from the tie-out system when not actively supervised or when you bring them indoors.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the life of your Snagle Paw Dog Tie Out Runner System and ensure continued safety:

  • Inspect Regularly: Before each use, visually inspect the entire system for any signs of wear, fraying, rust, or damage to the cables, clips, pulley, turnbuckle, and screw hooks.
  • Clean Components: Periodically clean the cables and metal components with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Dry thoroughly to prevent rust.
  • Lubricate Pulley: If the pulley starts to stick or squeak, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to its moving parts to ensure smooth operation.
  • Check Tension: Periodically check the tension of the 200ft runner cable and adjust the turnbuckle as needed to maintain tautness.
  • Anchor Point Integrity: Ensure the anchor points (trees, posts) remain strong and stable. Re-secure screw hooks if they become loose.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, clean and dry the system, then store it in the provided carry bag in a dry place to protect it from the elements.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

  • Cable Sagging: If the 200ft runner cable sags, tighten the turnbuckle until the cable is taut. Ensure anchor points are secure.
  • Pulley Sticking: If the pulley does not slide smoothly, check for debris or obstructions on the cable. Clean the pulley and apply a silicone lubricant if necessary.
  • Dog Getting Tangled: Ensure the pre-stoppers are correctly positioned to limit the dog's range and prevent access to obstacles. Supervise your dog to prevent entanglement.
  • Carabiner Not Locking: Check the screw-lock mechanism on the carabiner clip. Clean any dirt or debris that might be preventing it from engaging properly. If damaged, replace the lead.
  • Cable or Components Damaged: If any part of the system shows significant wear, fraying, or damage, discontinue use immediately and replace the affected component or the entire system.
