5. Setup

5.1 Powering the Unit

The J-220BTTQ can be powered by either AC power or batteries.

AC Power Operation:

  1. Ensure the unit is turned off.
  2. Insert the AC power cord into the AC input jack on the back of the unit.
  3. Plug the other end of the AC power cord into a standard wall outlet (AC 120V ~ 60Hz).

Battery Operation:

  1. Ensure the unit is turned off and disconnected from AC power.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the unit.
  3. Insert 4 x "D" cell batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Radio Operation

  1. Turn on the unit using the Power button.
  2. Set the Function Selector to "RADIO".
  3. Select the desired band (AM, FM, SW1, SW2) using the Band Selector.
  4. Extend the telescopic antenna for better FM/SW reception. For AM, rotate the unit for optimal reception.
  5. Rotate the Tuning Knob to find your desired radio station.
  6. Adjust the Volume Knob to your preferred listening level.

6.2 Cassette Player Operation

  1. Turn on the unit.
  2. Set the Function Selector to "TAPE".
  3. Press the "STOP/EJECT" button to open the cassette door.
  4. Insert a cassette tape with the open edge facing upwards.
  5. Close the cassette door.
  6. Press the "PLAY" button to start playback.
  7. Use "FAST FORWARD" or "REWIND" to navigate the tape.
  8. Press "PAUSE" to temporarily stop playback. Press again to resume.
  9. Press "STOP/EJECT" to stop playback and eject the tape.

6.3 Cassette Recording

Recording from Radio:

  1. Insert a blank cassette tape into the cassette deck.
  2. Set the Function Selector to "RADIO" and tune to your desired station.
  3. Press the "RECORD" button (this will also engage "PLAY"). Recording will begin.
  4. Press "STOP/EJECT" to stop recording.

Recording from Built-in Microphone:

  1. Insert a blank cassette tape into the cassette deck.
  2. Set the Function Selector to "TAPE".
  3. Press the "RECORD" button. The built-in microphone will activate, and recording will begin.
  4. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  5. Press "STOP/EJECT" to stop recording.

6.4 Bluetooth Operation

  1. Turn on the unit.
  2. Set the Function Selector to "BT" (Bluetooth). The unit will enter pairing mode, indicated by a flashing Bluetooth indicator.
  3. On your Bluetooth-enabled device (smartphone, tablet, etc.), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
  4. Select "QFX J-220BT" from the list of devices.
  5. Once paired, the Bluetooth indicator will become solid. You can now play music from your device, and it will stream through the boombox.
  6. Control playback (play/pause, next/previous track) from your connected device.

Note: Bluetooth range is approximately 30 feet (10 meters). Obstacles may reduce range.

6.5 USB/SD MP3 Playback

  1. Turn on the unit.
  2. Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port or an SD card into the SD card slot. Ensure the card is inserted correctly.
  3. Set the Function Selector to "MP3". The unit will automatically detect and begin playing MP3 files from the inserted media.
  4. Use the playback controls (Play/Pause, Next, Previous) on the unit to navigate tracks.

6.6 MP3 Conversion (Cassette to USB/SD)

The J-220BTTQ allows you to convert your cassette tapes into digital MP3 files on a USB drive or SD card.

  1. Insert a USB flash drive or SD card into its respective slot. Ensure there is sufficient free space.
  2. Insert the cassette tape you wish to convert into the cassette deck.
  3. Set the Function Selector to "TAPE".
  4. Press the "PLAY" button on the cassette deck.
  5. While the tape is playing, press the "REC/MP3 REC" button. The unit will begin recording the audio from the cassette directly to the USB drive/SD card as an MP3 file.
  6. Press "STOP/EJECT" on the cassette deck to stop the recording process. The MP3 file will be saved.

Note: Each press of the "REC/MP3 REC" button will create a new MP3 file.

6.7 Using the Equalizer

The 3-band graphic equalizer allows you to fine-tune the audio output:

  • BASS: Adjusts low frequencies. Turn clockwise for more bass, counter-clockwise for less.
  • MIDDLE: Adjusts mid-range frequencies.
  • TREBLE: Adjusts high frequencies. Turn clockwise for more treble, counter-clockwise for less.

Adjust these knobs to suit your personal preference and the type of music being played.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Cassette Head Cleaning: Periodically clean the cassette heads, pinch roller, and capstan with a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to ensure optimal sound quality and prevent tape damage.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for extended periods to prevent corrosion.
