Setup and Installation

The Refoss R10 is designed to upgrade traditional switches to smart switches. Installation typically takes less than 10 minutes.

1. Wiring Instructions:

A neutral wire is essential for the operation of the Refoss R10. Please ensure your electrical box has a neutral wire before proceeding. The device is compatible with various types of single-pole switches.

2. App and Platform Integration:

The Refoss R10 can be configured and controlled via the Refoss mobile application or a web portal. It supports integration with Home Assistant.

  1. Download the Refoss App: Search for "Refoss" in your mobile app store and download the application.
  2. Add Device: Follow the in-app instructions to add your R10 switch. The device supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks only.
  3. Static IP and Cloud Function: Within the Refoss app or web platform, you can set a static IP address for the switch. You can also enable or disable the cloud function. If the cloud function is disabled, no data is transferred to the cloud, and energy consumption data is stored locally for 24 hours. In this mode, remote control is not available, and the device can only be controlled on the local network.
  4. Home Assistant Integration: The device can be integrated into Home Assistant via its IP address. The web portal allows for configuration and control without needing the mobile application.

Operating Instructions

1. Remote Control:

Control your lights from anywhere using the free Refoss app on your smartphone, provided you have internet access and the cloud function is enabled.

2. Voice Control:

The Refoss R10 is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, allowing for hands-free control using simple voice commands.

  • For Alexa: Say, "Alexa, turn on the living room light."
  • For Google Home: Say, "Hey Google, turn off the kitchen light."

Note: This model is not compatible with Apple HomeKit.

3. Scheduling and Scenarios:

Create custom schedules, countdown timers, and smart scenarios to automate your lighting based on your daily routines. Schedules can function even if the internet connection is temporarily down.

4. Power Monitoring:

Monitor real-time energy consumption through the Refoss app. This feature helps you track usage and optimize your energy plan to reduce electricity costs. You can input your cost per kilowatt-hour in the app to estimate total expenses.

Note: Actual electricity costs may vary based on your energy provider and billing cycle.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Environment: Ensure the device is kept in a dry environment and protected from dust and moisture.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Refoss app for available firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  1. Device not connecting to Wi-Fi:
    • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz. The device does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
    • Check if the Wi-Fi signal strength is adequate at the installation location.
    • Verify that the Wi-Fi password entered is correct.
    • Restart your Wi-Fi router and try connecting again.
  2. Switch not responding after installation:
    • Confirm that a neutral wire is correctly connected. The Refoss R10 requires a neutral wire for power.
    • Check all wiring connections for tightness and correctness according to the wiring diagram.
    • Ensure the circuit breaker is on.
  3. Home Assistant integration issues:
    • Ensure the Refoss app has been used to activate the switch first.
    • If experiencing difficulties, try disabling the cloud functionality within the Refoss app before attempting Home Assistant integration.
    • While Home Assistant integration is generally reliable, some users report it can be initially challenging. Ensure your Home Assistant setup is up-to-date.
  4. Power consumption data not showing in Home Assistant:
    • Some users have reported that power consumption measurement may not be directly supported in Home Assistant through the standard Refoss integration. This feature is typically available within the Refoss app.
  5. Remote control not working:
    • Verify that the cloud function is enabled in the Refoss app. If disabled, remote control is not possible, and the device can only be controlled on the local network.
    • Ensure your smartphone has an active internet connection.
