2. Safety Information

  • WARNING: Do not test cables while they are powered on. Ensure all circuits are de-energized before testing to prevent electric shock or damage to the device.
  • Always use the device in accordance with local electrical safety regulations.
  • Keep the device away from water and moisture.
  • Do not attempt to open or modify the device. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Store the device in a dry, cool place when not in use.

3. Package Contents

Please check the package for the following items:

  • 1 x Cable Toner (Detector)
  • 1 x Probe (Receiver)
  • 1 x Test Head (Cable with various connectors)
  • 1 x User Manual (This document)
  • 1 x Storage Bag

Note: A 9V 6F22 battery is required for operation and is not included in the package.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on both the Cable Toner and the Probe units.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert one 9V 6F22 battery into each unit, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2 Connecting the Toner

  • Connect the test head cable to the Cable Toner unit.
  • Depending on the cable type you are testing, use the appropriate connector (e.g., RJ11 for telephone lines, RJ45 for network cables, or alligator clips for bare wires) to connect the toner to the cable you wish to trace.
  • Ensure the cable is disconnected from any active equipment and is not live.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Wire Tracing

  1. Connect the Cable Toner to the target cable as described in Section 4.2.
  2. Turn on the Cable Toner. It will generate a tone signal onto the cable.
  3. Turn on the Probe (Receiver) unit.
  4. Adjust the sensitivity of the Probe using its control dial for optimal detection.
  5. Move the tip of the Probe along the path of the suspected cable. The Probe will emit an audible tone and/or illuminate an LED indicator when it detects the signal from the toner.
  6. Follow the strongest signal to accurately trace the cable's path.

5.2 Short Circuit and Polarity Testing

  • Some models of the 200EP toner may offer additional functions like short circuit detection or polarity testing. Refer to the markings on your specific toner unit for these features.
  • Typically, these functions involve connecting the toner to the cable and observing LED indicators or tone changes on the toner itself to determine circuit status or polarity.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the indicator light dims or the device performance degrades. Always use fresh 9V 6F22 batteries. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the kit in its provided storage bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Signal/Weak Signal:
    • Check if batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge.
    • Ensure the Cable Toner is turned on and properly connected to the cable.
    • Increase the sensitivity on the Probe unit.
    • Verify the cable is not live or connected to other equipment that might interfere with the signal.
  • No Power:
    • Check battery installation and replace with new batteries.
    • Ensure the power switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • Interference:
    • External electrical noise can affect tracing. Try to minimize sources of interference.
    • Ensure the cable being traced is isolated from other active cables if possible.
