Setup Instructions
Follow these steps for a quick and efficient tent setup:
- Prepare the Site: Choose a flat, even surface for your tent. Unpack the tent body and lay it flat on the ground.
- Assemble Poles: Connect the sections of the fiberglass poles. You will have two main poles.
- Insert Poles into Quick Corners: Cross the assembled poles over the tent body. Slide the tips of the poles into the designated Kelty Quick Corners located at each corner of the tent.
- Raise Tent Body: Once the poles are secured in the Quick Corners, the tent body will begin to stand. Clip the tent body to the poles using the attached clips along the pole sleeves.
- Attach Rainfly: Drape the full coverage rainfly over the tent body. Align the color-coded corners of the rainfly with the corresponding corners of the tent body and snap them into place. Ensure the rainfly is centered and covers the tent adequately.
- Secure with Guylines: Utilize the pre-attached guylines to stake out the tent and rainfly, providing additional stability, especially in windy conditions. Adjust tension as needed.

Operating the Tent
The Discovery Element Tent is designed for user convenience:
- Large D-Door: The tent features a large D-shaped door for easy entry and exit.
- Internal Storage Pockets: Multiple internal pockets are provided for organizing small items and keeping your gear accessible yet off the floor.
- Ventilation: The tent body is designed with mesh sections to provide ample ventilation, especially when the rainfly is not fully closed. For maximum airflow, the rainfly can be partially rolled up or removed in clear weather.
- Vestibule Space: The full coverage rainfly creates a spacious vestibule area outside the main tent door, ideal for storing muddy boots, backpacks, and other gear, keeping the interior clean and dry.

Maintenance and Care
Proper care will extend the life of your tent:
- Cleaning: Clean your tent by hand using mild soap and water. Avoid harsh detergents or washing machines, as these can damage the fabric and waterproof coatings.
- Drying: Always ensure the tent body and rainfly are completely dry before packing away to prevent mildew and fabric degradation. Air dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
- Storage: Store the tent in its Shark-Mouth Duffle bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Floor Protection: The tent floor is made of 68D Polyester. For extended durability and protection against abrasion, consider using a ground tarp or footprint underneath the tent.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause / Solution |
|---|---|
| Poles snapping or breaking prematurely. | Fiberglass poles can be susceptible to damage from excessive force or prolonged stress. Ensure proper setup and avoid over-tensioning. Consider carrying a pole repair sleeve or seeking replacement poles if damage occurs. |
| Poor ventilation or condensation inside the tent. | Ensure all vents are open and the rainfly is positioned correctly to allow airflow. In humid conditions, condensation is natural; try to increase ventilation by partially opening the door or adjusting the rainfly if weather permits. |
| Water leakage during rain. | Verify that the rainfly is properly installed and taut, covering all mesh areas. Check for any tears or damage to the fabric or seams. The tent features a waterproof coating and seam sealing (1200 mm), but extreme conditions or damage can compromise this. |
| Difficulty packing the tent into the stuff sack. | Ensure the tent is completely dry and all air is pressed out during rolling. Roll the tent tightly and evenly. The Shark-Mouth Duffle is designed for easy packing, but a tight roll is key. |
