Physical Installation

  1. Site Selection: Choose a stable, level surface or a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Ensure adequate ventilation and maintain proper operating temperature and humidity as specified in the Specifications section.
  2. Mounting:
    • Desktop Installation: Place the switch on a flat, stable surface. Ensure sufficient space around the unit for airflow.
    • Rack Installation: Attach the provided rack-mount brackets to the sides of the switch using the screws. Secure the switch into the rack using appropriate rack screws.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the AC input port on the rear of the switch (refer to Figure 2). Plug the other end into a grounded electrical outlet.
  4. Initial Network Connection: Connect a network cable from your FortiGate device or management workstation to any of the Ethernet ports on the FortiSwitch for initial configuration.
  5. Console Connection (Optional): For direct console access, connect a serial cable from your management workstation to the RJ-45 console port on the front of the switch.

FortiLink Integration

  1. Ensure your FortiGate is running a compatible FortiOS version.
  2. Connect the FortiSwitch to a FortiGate interface configured for FortiLink.
  3. The FortiGate will automatically discover and authorize the FortiSwitch.
  4. Manage switch settings, including VLANs, PoE configurations, and port settings, directly from the FortiGate GUI.

PoE Functionality

The FortiSwitch 148F-FPOE provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) and PoE+ capabilities on its ports. This allows compatible devices (e.g., IP phones, wireless access points, IP cameras) to receive both data and power over a single Ethernet cable.
