2. Setup
2.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection
Carefully unpack all components and verify that all items listed in the product packaging are present and undamaged. If any items are missing or damaged, contact Night Owl support.
2.2 Recorder Placement
Place the recorder in a secure, central location within your property to ensure optimal wireless signal strength for all cameras. Ensure it is connected to a power source and, if desired, to your network router via an Ethernet cable for remote access.

2.3 Camera Installation
- Mounting: Select appropriate locations for your cameras, considering coverage area and proximity to power outlets. Mount cameras securely using the provided hardware. The cameras are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
- Power Connection: Connect each camera to a power outlet using its included 9 ft. power adapter. This provides continuous power for uninterrupted operation.
- Wireless Connection: The cameras will automatically attempt to connect wirelessly to the recorder once powered on and within range.

2.4 App-Based Bluetooth Setup
- Download the App: Download the Night Owl Protect app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Create Account: Follow the in-app instructions to create a new Night Owl account or log in to an existing one.
- Pair System: Use the app's secure Bluetooth setup feature to pair your mobile device with the recorder. This eliminates the need for a TV or monitor during initial setup.
- Configure Settings: Customize camera names, recording schedules, motion detection zones, and alert preferences through the app.
3. Operating the System
3.1 Live View and Recording
Access live camera feeds and review recorded footage through the Night Owl Protect mobile app or by connecting a monitor directly to the recorder. The system records in 2K HD resolution, providing clear images.

3.2 2-Way Audio and Alerts
- 2-Way Audio: Use the mobile app to listen to audio from the camera's location and speak through the camera's speaker.
- Voice Alerts and Siren: Activate preset voice alerts or a loud siren directly from the app to deter intruders or communicate with visitors.
- Mobile Notifications: Receive instant alerts on your mobile device when human or vehicle motion is detected by the cameras.

3.3 Data Storage and Privacy
All video recordings are stored locally on the 1TB hard drive within the recorder. This ensures your data remains private and accessible only to you. No internet connection is required for recording, though it is necessary for remote viewing and mobile alerts.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Camera Care
The cameras are designed for indoor and outdoor use and are weather-resistant. Periodically clean the camera lenses with a soft, damp cloth to ensure clear image quality. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
4.2 Hard Drive Management
The 1TB hard drive provides ample storage. The system typically overwrites the oldest footage when the drive is full. Regularly back up important footage to an external device if long-term archiving is required.
4.3 Firmware Updates
Ensure your system's firmware is up to date. Check the Night Owl Protect app or the Night Owl support website for available updates. Firmware updates can improve performance, add features, and enhance security.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 No Video Feed from Camera
- Check Power: Ensure the camera's power adapter is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet.
- Check Wireless Connection: Verify the camera is within range of the recorder and that there are no significant obstructions.
- Restart Camera/Recorder: Power cycle the camera and/or the recorder.
5.2 Unable to Connect via Mobile App
