4. Setup and Mounting
4.1 Mounting the Scope
Proper mounting is crucial for accuracy and consistent performance. Use high-quality 34mm scope rings compatible with your rifle's mounting system (e.g., Picatinny or Weaver mount).
- Ensure the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction.
- Attach the scope rings to your rifle's base according to the ring manufacturer's instructions. Do not overtighten.
- Place the scope into the bottom halves of the rings.
- Adjust the scope's position forward or backward to achieve proper eye relief. With the rifle shouldered, you should see a full, clear image without any dark rings around the edges.
- Rotate the scope to ensure the reticle is level. A reticle leveling tool is recommended for precision.
- Install the top halves of the rings and tighten the screws evenly, following the torque specifications provided by the ring manufacturer. Overtightening can damage the scope tube.
4.2 Focusing the Reticle (Diopter Adjustment)
The reticle must be sharp and clear for accurate aiming.
- Point the scope at a plain, bright background (e.g., a clear sky or a blank wall). Do not look through the scope at the sun.
- Quickly glance through the scope. If the reticle is blurry, adjust the Reticle/Ocular Focus Ring (located at the rear of the eyepiece) until the reticle appears sharp and crisp.
- Repeat this process until the reticle is perfectly focused for your eye. Avoid staring through the scope for too long during adjustment, as your eye may compensate for blurriness.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Magnification Adjustment
The magnification ring is located forward of the eyepiece. Rotate the ring to increase or decrease the magnification from 6x to 24x. Since this is a First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle, the reticle size will appear to change with magnification, ensuring that subtensions remain accurate at all power settings.
5.2 Parallax Adjustment
Parallax is the apparent movement of the reticle relative to the target when the shooter's eye moves off-center. The parallax adjustment turret is located on the left side of the scope.

Figure 5.1: Parallax adjustment knob (bottom right) and reticle illumination control (top left).
To adjust parallax:
- Look through the scope at your target.
- While maintaining a steady aim, move your head slightly up and down, or side to side.
- Rotate the parallax adjustment turret until the reticle appears stationary relative to the target, regardless of slight head movement. The numbers on the turret indicate approximate distances.
5.3 Reticle Illumination
The VHR-MIL reticle features an illuminated center dot for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions. The illumination control is integrated into the parallax adjustment turret.
- Rotate the outer ring of the parallax turret to turn the illumination on.
- Continue rotating to cycle through the 6 different brightness settings.
- Rotate back to the "0" position to turn off the illumination.
5.4 Elevation and Windage Adjustment
The elevation turret is located on top of the scope, and the windage turret is on the right side. Both turrets feature precise 0.1 MIL adjustments.

Figure 5.2: Elevation Turret (top) and Windage Turret (right) with adjustment indicators.
To adjust:
- Remove the turret caps if present (this model features exposed turrets).
- Rotate the elevation turret clockwise to move the point of impact down, and counter-clockwise to move it up.
- Rotate the windage turret clockwise to move the point of impact right, and counter-clockwise to move it left.
- Each click represents 0.1 MIL of adjustment.
5.5 AZS Zero Stop System
The AZS Zero Stop system allows for a quick and reliable return to your established zero setting after making elevation adjustments.

Figure 5.3: AZS Zero Stop system components, including AZS Set Screw and Turret Set.
To set the Zero Stop:
- After zeroing your rifle, loosen the turret set screws on the elevation turret.
- Lift the elevation turret cap and rotate it until the "0" mark aligns with the indicator line on the scope body.
- Lower the turret cap and tighten the turret set screws.
- The Zero Stop is now set. You can dial down to your zero point and the turret will stop, preventing you from dialing below your established zero.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning the Lenses
Use a soft lens brush or compressed air to remove dust and loose debris. For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean microfiber lens cloth and a small amount of lens cleaning solution. Wipe gently in a circular motion from the center outwards. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
6.2 Cleaning the Scope Body
Wipe the exterior of the scope with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by wiping with a clean, damp cloth and then drying thoroughly. Avoid getting moisture into the turrets or other moving parts.
6.3 Storage
Store the scope in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided lens covers to protect the objective and ocular lenses when not in use. If storing for extended periods, remove the battery from the illumination module.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Blurry image | Improper reticle focus (diopter) or parallax setting. | Adjust the Reticle/Ocular Focus Ring and Parallax Adjustment Turret. |
| Reticle not illuminating | Battery drained or incorrectly installed. Illumination turned off. | Check battery orientation and replace if necessary. Ensure illumination is turned on via the control knob. |
| Point of impact shifts | Loose mounting rings or base. Damaged scope. | Check and tighten all mounting hardware to manufacturer specifications. If problem persists, contact Arken Optics support. |
| Fogging inside scope | Seal compromise (rare for nitrogen-purged scopes). | If internal fogging occurs, contact Arken Optics support. External fogging can be wiped away. |
