5. Installation and Setup

Installation should be performed by a qualified professional in accordance with all local codes and the provided instructions. This appliance must be installed in a masonry or agency-approved firebox.

5.1 Pre-Installation Checks

  • Verify that the firebox meets the minimum size requirements: 20” H x 29” W in front (22” W at rear) x 13” D.
  • Ensure the gas supply type (Natural Gas or Liquid Propane) matches the appliance’s configuration. The patented Dual Fuel Technology allows conversion, but it must be correctly set for your gas type.
  • Confirm that the area has adequate ventilation.

5.2 Component Placement

  1. Carefully place the burner assembly and iron grate within the firebox.
  2. Arrange the ceramic logs according to the detailed log placement instructions provided with the hardware pack. Proper log placement is crucial for flame appearance and safe operation.
  3. Connect the gas line to the burner assembly. This step requires professional expertise.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Initial Ignition

  1. Ensure the gas supply valve is open.
  2. Insert the included AAA battery into the Piezo ignition unit.
  3. Turn the control knob to the 'Pilot' position and depress it.
  4. While holding the knob down, press the Piezo ignitor button repeatedly until the pilot flame ignites. Continue to hold the control knob down for approximately 30-60 seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat up.
  5. Release the control knob. If the pilot flame extinguishes, repeat the process.

6.2 Main Burner Operation (Thermostat Control)

The thermostat control allows you to set a desired room temperature, and the unit will automatically cycle on and off to maintain it.

  1. Once the pilot is lit, turn the control knob from 'Pilot' to the desired heat setting (1-5).
  2. The main burner will ignite, and flames will appear among the logs.
  3. To adjust the temperature, rotate the control knob to a higher or lower setting. The unit will automatically regulate the flame to reach and maintain the set temperature.
  4. To turn off the main burner while keeping the pilot lit, turn the control knob to the 'Pilot' position.
  5. To completely turn off the unit, turn the control knob to the 'Off' position and close the main gas supply valve.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures safe and efficient operation of your fireplace logs set.

  • Annual Inspection: Have a qualified service technician inspect the burner assembly, gas connections, and logs annually.
  • Cleaning: Keep the area around the appliance clear of combustible materials. Periodically clean the logs and burner area with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris. Ensure the unit is completely cool and the gas supply is off before cleaning.
  • Log Condition: Inspect logs for cracks or damage. Replace any damaged logs to maintain proper flame patterns and safety.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps. For persistent problems, contact a qualified service technician.

8.1 Pilot Light Will Not Stay Lit

  • Gas Supply: Ensure the main gas supply valve is fully open.
  • Thermocouple: The thermocouple may not be heating sufficiently. Ensure the pilot flame is directly impinging on the thermocouple. Hold the control knob down for the recommended 30-60 seconds after ignition.
  • ODS Activation: The Oxygen Depletion Sensor may have activated due to low oxygen levels. Ensure adequate ventilation in the room.
  • Pilot Orifice: A clogged pilot orifice can cause a weak pilot flame. This requires professional cleaning.

8.2 Main Burner Does Not Ignite

  • Pilot Lit: Confirm the pilot light is actively burning. The main burner will not ignite if the pilot is out.
  • Control Knob Position: Ensure the control knob is turned to a numbered heat setting (1-5) and not just 'Pilot' or 'Off'.
  • Gas Pressure: Low gas pressure can prevent the main burner from igniting. Consult your gas supplier or a professional.
