1. Safety Information
Please read all safety precautions carefully before using your freezer. This manual contains important information regarding the safe operation, installation, and maintenance of your appliance.
- WARNING: Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.
- WARNING: Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process, other than those recommended by the manufacturer.
- WARNING: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.
- WARNING: Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartments of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.
- DANGER: Risk of child entrapment. Before you throw away your old refrigerator or freezer: Take off the doors. Leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside.
- It is recommended that the freezer should not be recessed or installed in a closed cabinet to ensure proper air circulation and cooling efficiency.
- Allow the freezer to settle for at least 4 hours in an upright position before plugging it in to allow the refrigerant to settle.
2. Package Contents
Upon unpacking, please ensure all items listed below are present and undamaged:
- Upright Freezer
- User Manual
- Removable Shelves (3)
- Adjustable Leveling Legs (2)
3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking Your Freezer
- Remove all packaging material. This includes the foam base and all adhesive tape holding the freezer accessories inside and outside.
- Remove and retain any remains of packing tape or printed materials before powering on the freezer.
3.2 Adjusting Your Freezer
- Your freezer is designed for freestanding installation only. It should not be recessed or built-in.
- Place the freezer on a surface strong enough to support it fully loaded.
- If the freezer is tilted, adjust the leveling legs to ensure stability.
- Allow the freezer to stand in an upright position for at least 4 hours prior to plugging it in. This allows the refrigerant to settle.
3.3 Proper Air Circulation
To ensure your freezer works at maximum efficiency, it requires proper air circulation. The following are recommended clearances around the freezer:
- Sides: 4" (102mm)
- Back: 4" (102mm)
- Top: 4" (102mm)
4. Operating Your Freezer
4.1 Temperature Control
The freezer is equipped with a 7-level mechanical temperature control knob located inside the unit. This allows you to manually adjust the temperature according to your food storage needs. The temperature range is from -11.2°F to 50°F.
- Setting "1" is the warmest.
- Setting "7" is the coldest.
- For initial operation, set the temperature control to "7" for 24 hours before adjusting to your desired setting.
4.2 Normal Operating Sounds You May Hear
- Boiling water, gurgling sounds or slight vibrations are the result of the refrigerant circulating through the cooling coils.
- The thermostat control will click when it cycles on and off.
5. Food Storage Information
Proper food storage is crucial for maintaining food quality and safety. Follow these guidelines for optimal results:
- Wrap food tightly in aluminum foil, freezer wrap, or plastic bags to prevent freezer burn.
- Label and date all frozen items.
- Do not refreeze defrosted food.
- These are some suggestions for safe storage:
- TV Dinners: 2-4 Months
- Fresh Shrimp, Scallops, Crawfish: 3-6 Months
- Hamburger & Stew Meats: 3-4 Months
- Ground Turkey, Veal, Pork: 3-4 Months
- Chops: 4-6 Months
- Steaks: 6-12 Months
- Chicken or Turkey: a whole year
6. Proper Freezer Care and Cleaning
6.1 General Cleaning
- Unplug the freezer before cleaning.
- Clean the interior with a solution of 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
- Clean the exterior with a mild detergent and warm water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
6.2 Door Gaskets
Clean door gaskets every three months according to general instructions. Gaskets must be kept clean and pliable to ensure a proper seal. If the gasket becomes damaged, replace it to prevent cold air loss.
6.3 Power Interruptions
- Occasionally there may be power interruptions due to thunderstorms or other causes. Remove the plug from the AC outlet when a power outage occurs.
- If the freezer has been opened frequently or for an extended period of time, check for freezer burn or spoilage.
- If the freezer compartment is full, remove large pieces of food before they melt.
6.4 Manual Defrosting Instructions
Manual defrost freezers must be defrosted manually. For best operation, the freezer should be defrosted when the frost accumulation becomes 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Below are the instructions for manually defrosting your freezer:
- Turn the temperature control to "0" and unplug the freezer.
- Remove all food and place it in corrugated boxes, insulated bags, picnic coolers, etc. Use towels and newspapers for insulation, as needed.
- Remove the drain plug (on models so equipped).
- With the door open, let the frost inside the freezer melt naturally. Remove large pieces of food before they melt.
- Sponge the excess water from the bottom of the freezer as it collects to prevent overflowing.
- After defrosting, clean the inside of the freezer by wiping it down with a baking soda and water solution. Rinse and dry.
- Be sure to replace drain cap (on models so equipped). Return the drain tube to its position and replace the grille.
- Plug the freezer in, return the temperature control to the normal position and return food to the freezer.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1 Freezer Does Not Operate
- Check if thermostat control is set to the "0" position.
- Check if the freezer is plugged in.
- Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.
- Check if the power cord is damaged.
7.2 Food Temperature Appears Too Warm
- Frequent door openings.
- Large amount of warm food has been added to reach freezer temperature.
- Check gaskets for proper seal.
- Freezer is located in a warm area or exposed to direct sunlight.
- Adjust temperature control to a colder setting.
7.3 Food Temperature is Too Cold
- Temperature control setting is too cold; adjust to a warmer setting and allow several hours for temperature to stabilize.
7.4 Compressor Runs Too Frequently
- This may be normal to maintain constant temperature during high temperatures or frequent door openings.
- Doors may have been opened frequently or for an extended period of time.
- Check gaskets for proper seal.
- Check freezer compartment for blockage from frozen food packages, containers, etc.
7.5 Freezer Has An Odor
- Interior needs cleaning.
- Foods improperly wrapped or sealed are giving off odors.
