Introduction

The KGUSS Topping D70 Pro OCTO DAC is a high-fidelity digital-to-analog converter designed to deliver exceptional audio performance. Featuring 8 Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips, Bluetooth 5.1 with LDAC support, and a vibrant Aurora UI color display, this unit offers versatile connectivity and advanced audio decoding capabilities up to PCM768kHz/32bit and DSD512. It also includes RCA and XLR outputs and can function as an integrated preamplifier.

Setup Instructions

1. Power Connection

Connect the provided AC power cable to the unit and a suitable power outlet. Ensure the power switch on the rear panel is in the ON position.

2. Audio Connections

The D70 Pro OCTO offers both RCA single-ended and XLR balanced outputs. You can use either or both simultaneously to connect to your amplifier or active speakers. Ensure all cables are securely connected.

3. USB Connectivity (Plug and Play)

The D70 Pro OCTO is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 11, MAC, Linux, iOS, and Android devices. For Windows users requiring ASIO applications, a custom driver (XMOS XU316 and Thesycon) is provided for stable performance. Other operating systems are driver-free.

4. Bluetooth Connection

The unit supports Bluetooth 5.1 with LDAC, aptX-Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC, and SBC audio encoding for high-quality wireless transmission. Pair your device by enabling Bluetooth on the D70 Pro OCTO and selecting it from your source device's Bluetooth settings.

5. 12V Trigger

The D70 Pro OCTO includes a 12V Trigger input and output interface. This allows the unit to be switched on or off by other compatible devices, and also actively trigger other devices to power on or off synchronously.

Operating Instructions

1. Aurora UI and Display

The D70 Pro OCTO features a full-color screen and three touch buttons for an intuitive user interface. You can toggle between playback information, FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) display, or VU (Volume Unit) meters. Customized functions are accessible by pressing the volume knob. The display supports switching between Chinese and English.

2. Output Mode Switching

The unit allows you to freely switch between RCA single-ended output, XLR balanced output, or use both simultaneously. Additionally, you can select between XLR 4V/RCA 2V and XLR 5V/RCA 2.5V output levels to match different devices and performance requirements.

3. Integrated Preamplifier Function

Beyond its DAC capabilities, the D70 Pro OCTO can operate in a "preamp" mode. In this mode, you can directly adjust the volume and output to power amplifiers or active speakers. It features independent volume memory for different modes, ensuring the unit reverts to your last-used volume setting when switching modes.

Common Issues and Solutions

Phenomenon	Solution
Can't be turned on	Check the power connection. Check if the rear panel power switch is in the ON position. Try with another power cable. Try with another power outlet.
No sound	The device did not power on. Check the power supply. Check that the proper input source is selected. Press the button on front panel to switch input channel. Check the output setting. Check the connections for all devices. Insert connection cables all the way in. Check the volume of all devices and whether they are muted. Bluetooth IN: Too low volume on phone. Please adjust volume. USB IN: 1) Too low volume on PC. Please check and adjust the computer system volume, music player volume and driver volume to the maximum. 2) Select the default output device of your music player or computer as this unit.
Noisy playback	Try with other songs. The specifications of songs are not supported by this unit. If the noise appears only when playing DSD files, please check and adjust the computer system volume, music player volume and driver volume to the maximum. Check to see if the problem is with the source, downstream equipment and cables. If the noise disappears after unplugging the USB cable, it may be interference from the source. You could try to add a USB isolation between this unit and the source.
One channel with noise / no output	Check to see if the problem is with the source, downstream equipment and cables.
Channel imbalance	Set to C (Balance) in [Setup Menu - Advance - Channel balance]. Check to see if the problem is with the source, downstream equipment and cables. You can try swapping the left and right channel connections and try with another source.
Cannot pair the Bluetooth	Enable Bluetooth function in the setup menu first. May be already connected to another Bluetooth device. Press and hold headphone button on the remote control to let this unit enter pairing mode. Bring the Bluetooth device near to this unit. Turn the power of the unit off and then try again. Bring the Bluetooth device near to this unit. Remove obstructions between the Bluetooth device and this unit.
Bluetooth in: the sound is cut off	To prevent electromagnetic interference, locate this unit away from microwave ovens, wireless LAN devices and other Bluetooth devices. Reconnect the Bluetooth device.
The connected USB device does not recognize this unit	USB cable did not connect properly. Please check or change the cable. Driver problem. Try to reinstall the driver. Maybe caused by the PC. Check or try with another PC. Some phones require OTG function to be enabled first.
Remote control not responding	Enable remote control function in the setup menu first. Try to insert two fresh AAA batteries. Please aim at the remote control receiver. Bring the remote control close to the device. Use your Android phone's camera to look at the transmitter at the top of the remote, if it doesn't blink when you press the remote button, the remote is defective. If you have more than one Topping device, check that you are using the correct remote control.
Can't adjust this unit's volume	Please check if DAC mode was set in [Setup menu-Advanced-DAC mode]. In DAC mode, the volume is not adjustable and is the maximum value, while in PRE mode the volume can be adjusted. Set it to PRE mode if you need to adjust the volume.
The sample rate displayed on the device does not match the music file	The choice of music player app, the setting of music player and the setting of computer/phone will all have an impact on the sampling rate. The sampling rate displayed by this unit is the sampling rate of the input signal, and it will not change the sampling rate by itself. If the music player can be set to exclusive mode, the audio signal will not be resampled by the computer/phone, so the sampling rate of the output signal is the sampling rate of the original file, and the sampling rate displayed by this unit is also the sampling rate of the original file. Because some players can't be set to exclusive mode, the audio signal will be resampled by the computer/phone and then output. So this unit will always display the sampling rate set by the computer/phone. We recommend using Audirvana player on MAC OS and Foobar on Windows.
DAC abnormal	Disconnect other devices and reboot. If the problem still persists, your unit may be defective. Please contact us by mail.
DIR abnormal	Disconnect other devices and reboot. If the problem still persists, your unit may be defective. Please contact us by mail.
PN voltage abnormal / low / high	Disconnect other devices and reboot. If the problem still persists, your unit may be defective. Please contact us by mail.
5V voltage abnormal / low / high	Disconnect other devices and reboot. If the problem still persists, your unit may be defective. Please contact us by mail.
FFT module abnormal	Disconnect other devices and reboot. If the problem still persists, your unit may be defective. Please contact us by mail.
File size large	Please re-flash the correct firmware. Try to reboot the computer or use another computer.
