1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your OTC S020 20-Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stand. Please read and understand all instructions and safety warnings before operating this equipment. Proper use and maintenance will ensure reliable performance and extend the life of the product.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.
- Always use jack stands in pairs on a hard, level surface.
- Do not exceed the rated capacity of 20 tons per stand.
- Ensure the vehicle is properly supported and stable before beginning any work.
- Position jack stands under the vehicle's frame or designated support points as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Verify that the locking pin is fully engaged through both the support column and the base before applying load.
- Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands.
- Keep hands and feet clear of the jack stand and vehicle during raising and lowering operations.
- Inspect the jack stand for damage or wear before each use. Do not use if damaged.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with vehicles.
3. Components
The OTC S020 Jack Stand consists of the following main components:
- Saddle: The top contact point for supporting the vehicle frame.
- Support Column: The adjustable vertical component that holds the saddle.
- Base: The stable foundation with four welded steel legs.
- Dual Locking Pin: A solid steel pin that secures the support column at the desired height. This pin is permanently tethered to the stand.
- Carry Handle: Integrated handle for portability.

4. Setup
- Prepare Work Area: Ensure the work area is clean, well-lit, and on a hard, level, non-slippery surface. Avoid soft ground, gravel, or sloped areas.
- Inspect Jack Stand: Before each use, visually inspect the jack stand for any signs of damage, cracks, bends, or excessive wear. Ensure the locking pin operates freely and is securely tethered. Do not use a damaged jack stand.
- Position Jack Stand: Place the jack stand near the intended support point on the vehicle.
5. Operating Instructions
- Raise Vehicle: Using a suitable vehicle jack (not included), carefully raise the vehicle to a height slightly above the desired support height for the jack stand. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for proper jacking points.
- Adjust Height: Remove the dual locking pin from the jack stand. Raise or lower the support column to the desired height. The OTC S020 offers 4 adjustment slots.
- Secure Height: Re-insert the dual locking pin completely through the support column and the base, ensuring it passes through both sides and is fully seated. The tether prevents loss of the pin.
- Position Jack Stand: Carefully position the jack stand directly under the vehicle's designated support point (e.g., frame rail, axle housing). Ensure the vehicle's weight is centered on the saddle.
- Lower Vehicle onto Stand: Slowly and carefully lower the vehicle using the vehicle jack until its weight rests securely on the jack stand's saddle. Ensure the vehicle is stable and does not rock.
- Remove Jack: Once the vehicle is securely supported by the jack stand(s), the vehicle jack can be removed.
- To Remove Vehicle: Reverse the process. Use the vehicle jack to slightly raise the vehicle off the jack stand. Remove the dual locking pin and lower the support column. Carefully remove the jack stand, then slowly lower the vehicle to the ground using the vehicle jack.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Keep the jack stand clean and free of dirt, grease, and debris. Wipe down with a clean cloth.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect all components for wear, damage, or corrosion. Pay close attention to welds, the support column, the base, and the locking pin.
- Lubrication: Lightly lubricate the support column and pin mechanism periodically with a general-purpose lubricant to ensure smooth operation.
- Storage: Store the jack stand in a dry, clean area when not in use to prevent rust and damage.
- Repair: Do not attempt to modify or repair the jack stand. Any repairs should be performed by qualified personnel using original manufacturer parts.
7. Troubleshooting
Most issues with jack stands are related to improper usage or maintenance. Always refer to the safety guidelines.
- Stand is unstable: Ensure the jack stand is placed on a hard, level surface. Verify the vehicle's weight is centered on the saddle. Do not use on soft ground or slopes.
- Locking pin does not engage: Check for obstructions in the adjustment holes. Ensure the support column is aligned correctly with the base. Apply a small amount of lubricant if stiff.
- Visible damage: If any part of the jack stand shows signs of bending, cracking, or severe corrosion, discontinue use immediately and replace the unit.
