2. Safety Information

3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Site Selection

Choose a location that allows for proper chimney connection and maintains required clearances from combustible walls, furniture, and other materials. The floor beneath the stove must be constructed of non-combustible material or protected by an approved floor protector.

3.2 Chimney and Flue Pipe

Ensure the chimney system is correctly sized, in good condition, and regularly inspected. Use only approved flue pipes and connectors. All connections must be sealed properly to prevent smoke leakage.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 First Use (Curing the Paint)

During the first few fires, the stove's paint will cure, emitting an odor and possibly some smoke. Ensure good ventilation during this period. Start with small fires and gradually increase the heat over several days to allow the paint to cure properly and prevent damage to the finish.

4.2 Loading Fuel

1. Open the primary air control fully.
2. Place crumpled newspaper or firelighters at the bottom of the firebox.
3. Stack small pieces of kindling on top of the newspaper/firelighters.
4. Light the newspaper/firelighters.
5. Once the kindling is burning well, gradually add larger pieces of seasoned wood.
6. Close the door securely once the fire is established.

4.3 Air Control

The Supra Oscar wood stove features primary and secondary air controls to regulate combustion. The primary air control (usually located at the bottom of the door) is used for starting fires and for rapid heat output. The secondary air control (often located above the door or on the sides) introduces preheated air for more complete combustion, reducing emissions and increasing efficiency. Adjust these controls to achieve the desired burn rate and heat output.

4.4 Refueling

When refueling, open the primary air control fully for a few minutes before opening the stove door to prevent smoke spillage. Open the door slowly, add new fuel, and then close the door securely. Adjust air controls as needed.

5.1 Ash Removal

Remove ash regularly, typically when the ash bed is 2-3 cm deep. Use a metal shovel and place ashes in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid, away from combustible materials. Ensure ashes are completely cold before disposal.

5.2 Cleaning the Glass

If the glass becomes dirty, allow the stove to cool completely. Use a damp cloth dipped in fine wood ash or a specialized glass cleaner for wood stoves. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can scratch the glass.

5.3 Chimney Cleaning

The chimney and flue pipe should be inspected and cleaned at least once a year, or more frequently if burning resinous wood or experiencing heavy creosote buildup. This should be performed by a certified chimney sweep.

5.4 Annual Inspection

Have your stove and chimney system inspected annually by a qualified professional. They can check for wear and tear, proper seals, and overall safety.

• Smoke Spillage: Ensure the chimney is clear, the flue damper is open, and the door is not opened too quickly. Check for downdrafts.
• Poor Draft: May indicate a blocked chimney, cold chimney, or insufficient air supply to the room.
• Low Heat Output: Ensure you are burning dry, seasoned wood. Check air control settings and chimney draft.
• Excessive Creosote Buildup: Often caused by burning wet wood or operating the stove at too low a temperature. Increase burn temperature and ensure wood is dry.
