Follow these steps to set up your ZTE Z1320 router:

  1. Unpack the Router: Carefully remove the router and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Position the Router: Place the router in a central location in your home or office, away from obstructions, large metal objects, and other electronic devices that may cause interference. An elevated position is often ideal.
  3. Connect to Power: Connect the power adapter to the router's "Power" port and plug the other end into a power outlet. The power indicator light on the router should illuminate.
  4. Connect to Modem: Connect one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the "WAN" port on your ZTE Z1320 router and the other end to an available LAN/Ethernet port on your existing modem or optical network terminal (ONT).
  5. Connect Devices (Optional): For wired connections, connect your computer or other network devices to the "LAN1" or "LAN2" ports on the router using Ethernet cables.
  6. Wait for Initialization: Allow a few minutes for the router to power on and initialize. The indicator lights should show a stable connection (refer to the router's LED indicator guide for specific light behaviors).
  7. Connect to Wi-Fi: On your computer or mobile device, search for available Wi-Fi networks. Select the network name (SSID) printed on the label on the bottom of your router. Enter the Wi-Fi password (also on the label) to connect.
  8. Access Router Settings: Open a web browser and enter the default IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) or domain name (e.g., routerlogin.net) found on the router's label. Log in using the default username and password. It is highly recommended to change the default Wi-Fi name and password for security.
  9. Utilize ZTE ZLife Lite App: Download the ZTE ZLife Lite app from your device's app store for easier setup and management of your network.

  • Wireless Devices: Connect smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other Wi-Fi enabled devices by selecting your network's SSID and entering the password.
  • Wired Devices: Use Ethernet cables to connect desktop computers, gaming consoles, smart TVs, or network-attached storage (NAS) devices to the LAN ports for stable, high-speed connections.

Network Management:

  • Web Interface: Access the router's web-based management interface (using the IP address from setup) to configure advanced settings such as port forwarding, parental controls, guest networks, and firmware updates.
  • ZTE ZLife Lite App: Use the mobile application for convenient management of basic settings, monitoring connected devices, and setting up mesh networks.
  • Mesh Network Setup: If you have multiple ZTE Z1320 routers, follow the instructions in the app or web interface to create a seamless mesh Wi-Fi system for extended coverage.

5. Maintenance

  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates through the router's web interface or the ZTE ZLife Lite app. Updates often include performance improvements, security patches, and new features.
  • Cleaning: Keep the router clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Ensure ventilation holes are not blocked to prevent overheating.
  • Placement: Avoid placing the router in enclosed spaces, near heat sources, or in direct sunlight. Optimal placement ensures better signal strength and longevity.
  • Restarting: Periodically restart your router (unplug from power for 10 seconds, then plug back in) to refresh its connection and clear any temporary issues.

6. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • No Internet Connection:
    • Check all cable connections (power, WAN to modem).
    • Restart both the modem and the router.
    • Verify your internet service provider (ISP) is not experiencing an outage.
    • Ensure the WAN indicator light on the router is stable.
  • Slow Wi-Fi Speed:
    • Move closer to the router.
    • Check for interference from other electronic devices.
    • Ensure your devices are connected to the 5 GHz band if supported, for higher speeds.
    • Limit the number of active devices or bandwidth-intensive activities.
    • Consider adding another mesh unit if coverage is an issue.
  • Frequent Disconnections:
    • Update router firmware to the latest version.
    • Change Wi-Fi channels in the router settings to avoid interference.
    • Ensure the router is not overheating.
    • Check for conflicting IP addresses on your network.
  • Cannot Access Router Settings:
    • Ensure your device is connected to the router's network (wired or wireless).
    • Verify the correct IP address or domain name is entered in the browser.
    • Try clearing your browser's cache or using a different browser.
    • If you forgot the login password, you may need to perform a factory reset (see below).
  • Factory Reset: If issues persist, you can perform a factory reset. Locate the "Reset" button (often a small pinhole) on the back of the router. With the router powered on, use a paperclip or similar object to press and hold the button for about 10 seconds until the lights flash. The router will revert to its default factory settings, and you will need to reconfigure it.
