Important Note: This enclosure is not designed for SSDs with pre-installed heatsinks. Ensure your SSD does not have an integrated heatsink before installation to prevent compatibility issues.
5. Operating Instructions
Once your M.2 NVMe SSD is installed, connect the enclosure to your device:
- Connect the Cable: Use the provided 2-in-1 USB-C to A/C cable. For 40Gbps transfer speeds, connect the USB-C to C end to a USB4.0 or Thunderbolt 3/4 port on your host device. For 10Gbps speeds, use the USB-C to A end.
- Plug and Play: The enclosure is plug-and-play, requiring no additional drivers for Mac, Windows, or Linux systems. Your operating system should automatically detect the connected SSD.
- Data Transfer: You can now access and transfer data to and from your SSD. Expect read/write speeds up to 3100MB/s when connected via a 40Gbps compatible port.

6. Heat Dissipation & Performance
The ORICO enclosure is engineered with multiple heat dissipation features to maintain optimal SSD performance and longevity:
- Built-in Silent Fan: Actively cools the M.2 SSD, preventing thermal throttling during intensive operations.
- Striped Aluminum Heatsink: Maximizes surface area for efficient heat dissipation.
- Silicone Cooling Pads: Ensures effective thermal contact between the SSD and the heatsink.
This multi-cooling combination helps keep the M.2 SSD at a safe operating temperature, ensuring consistent high-speed performance.

7. Compatibility Notes
To ensure proper functionality, please observe the following compatibility guidelines:
- Supported SSDs: M-Key NVMe SSDs (PCIe protocol) of sizes 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280.
- Unsupported SSDs: SATA B-Key and B+M Key SSDs are not supported. SSDs with pre-installed heatsinks are also not compatible with this enclosure.
- Host Interface: To achieve 40Gbps transfer speeds, your host device must have a USB4.0 interface or a Thunderbolt 3/4 interface.
- Specific Exclusions: Not recommended for use with Crucial-P3 Plus, WD Black SN750, and Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSDs. Not compatible with Intel Thunderbolt ports prior to 12th Generation (except 12th Gen Intel processors). Compatible with AMD and Apple Thunderbolt ports.

8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ORICO 40Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, consider the following:
- Device Not Recognized: Ensure the SSD is correctly installed and secured within the enclosure. Verify that the USB cable is firmly connected to both the enclosure and the host device. Try connecting to a different USB or Thunderbolt port.
- Slow Transfer Speeds: Confirm that your host device's port supports 40Gbps (USB4.0 or Thunderbolt 3/4) and that you are using the USB-C to C cable for maximum speed. Older USB ports (e.g., USB 3.0/3.1 Gen1) will operate at lower speeds.
- Overheating: Ensure the thermal pad is correctly placed on the SSD's controller chip. Verify that the built-in fan is operating. If the environment is excessively hot, consider using the enclosure in a cooler area. Note that some SSDs may naturally run hotter than others.
- Power Issues (Mac Mini): Some Mac Mini models may not provide sufficient power to external SSD enclosures, potentially leading to disconnects. If this occurs, try connecting the enclosure to a powered USB hub.
- SSD Compatibility: Double-check that your SSD is an M-Key NVMe type and does not have a pre-installed heatsink. Refer to the 'Compatibility Notes' section for specific exclusions.
