1. Safety Instructions

Always observe basic safety precautions when using electrical tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Read all instructions carefully before operating the bench drill.

General Safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical Safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

Personal Safety

  • Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard hats, or hearing protection for appropriate conditions.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your Parkside PTBMOD 710 Bench Drill.

Power Connection

Connect the power cable to a suitable 230V AC power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the 'OFF' position before plugging in the tool.

Adjusting Speed

The electronic speed control allows you to adjust the drilling speed between 500 and 2600 RPM. Use lower speeds for harder materials and larger drill bits, and higher speeds for softer materials and smaller drill bits. Refer to the material guidelines below:

  • Wood: Generally higher speeds.
  • Metal: Generally lower speeds.
  • Plastic: Medium to high speeds, depending on plastic type.

Setting Depth Stop

To achieve consistent drilling depths, adjust the depth stop. Loosen the depth stop locking mechanism, lower the drill bit to the desired depth, and then secure the depth stop. This prevents the drill from going deeper than intended.

Using the Laser Guide

Activate the integrated laser to project a crosshair onto your workpiece, indicating the exact drilling point. Adjust the laser position if necessary to align with your mark.

Securing Workpiece

Always secure your workpiece firmly to the base plate using the quick clamping device or parallel stop. This prevents the workpiece from rotating or shifting during drilling, ensuring safety and accuracy. For round workpieces, the quick clamping device is also suitable.

Drilling Procedure

  1. Select the appropriate drill bit for your material and desired hole size. (Note: Drill bits are not included).
  2. Insert the drill bit into the chuck and tighten it securely using the chuck key.
  3. Position the workpiece and secure it.
  4. Adjust the speed and depth stop as required.
  5. Align the drill bit with your mark, using the laser guide for precision.
  6. Switch on the drill.
  7. Slowly lower the drill bit into the workpiece with steady pressure. Avoid excessive force.
  8. Once drilling is complete, raise the drill bit and switch off the machine.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your bench drill.

Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the power plug before performing any cleaning or maintenance.
  • Clean the tool regularly, especially after use, to remove dust, chips, and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage plastic parts.

Chuck Care

Periodically clean the chuck jaws to ensure they grip drill bits securely. Apply a small amount of light machine oil to the chuck threads if it becomes stiff.

Storage

Store the bench drill in a clean, dry, and secure location, out of reach of children. Protect it from moisture and extreme temperatures.
