2.1 General Safety Rules

4. Setup and Assembly

4.1 Fuel and Oil Preparation

Your BILT HARD Chainsaw uses a 2-cycle engine and requires a specific gasoline-to-oil mixture. Use a 40:1 ratio of fuel to oil mix.

• Always use fresh, clean, unleaded gasoline.
• Use high-quality 2-cycle engine oil specifically designed for air-cooled engines.
• Mix the fuel and oil thoroughly in a separate, approved fuel container before pouring into the chainsaw's fuel tank.
• Fill the chain lubricant oil tank with premium bar and chain lubricant oil.

4.2 Bar and Chain Assembly

Follow these steps to properly install the guide bar and saw chain.

1. Pull the front hand guard towards the front handle to disengage the chain brake.
2. Loosen and remove the bar nuts and the clutch cover from the saw.
3. Install the guide bar onto the studs.
4. Mount the chain on the pinion, ensuring the cutters face in the correct direction of rotation and the chain moves freely.
5. Check that the drive links of the chain fit correctly on the drive sprocket and that the chain is in the groove on the bar.
6. Fit the clutch cover. Adjust the chain tensioning screw so that the adjusting pin fits into the cut-out in the clutch cover.
7. Hand tighten the bar nuts finger-tight. DO NOT tighten completely at this stage.

5. Operation

5.1 Starting the Chainsaw

Proper starting procedure is crucial for both safety and engine longevity.

Cold Start Procedure:

1. Slowly press the primer bulb 6 to 10 times until fuel is visible.
2. Pull the blue choke lever out fully.
3. Push the hand guard forward to engage the chain brake.
4. Place your right foot in the rear handle for stability.
5. Using your right hand, pull the starter rope sharply 2-3 times until the engine briefly fires or sputters.
6. Push the blue choke lever in fully.
7. Set the red switch to position "I" (ON).
8. Pull the starter rope sharply again until the machine starts.
9. Once started, squeeze the throttle trigger to set normal idle.

Hot Start Procedure:

1. Set the red switch to position "I" (ON).
2. Place your right foot in the rear handle for stability.
3. Using your right hand, pull the starter rope sharply until the machine starts.
4. Once started, squeeze the throttle trigger to set normal idle.

5.2 Cutting Techniques

Always maintain a firm grip with both hands and ensure proper footing. Allow the chainsaw to reach full speed before beginning a cut.

• Bucking: Cutting a fallen tree or log into sections. Ensure the log is stable and supported.
• Limbing: Removing branches from a fallen tree. Work from the base of the tree towards the top.

6.1 Chain Tensioning

1. DO NOT adjust the tension adjuster before loosening the fixing nuts.
2. Use the wrench to loosen the fixing nuts.
3. Then use a flat-head screwdriver to adjust the tension adjuster until the gap between the chain and the upside of the guide bar is 1-3mm. The chain should fit snugly against the underside of the guide bar.
4. Tighten the fixing nuts completely.
5. The new chain may produce slight deformation when used. It needs to tighten the chain again after 10 minutes of first use.

6.2 Cleaning and Storage

• Clean the air filter regularly to maintain engine performance.
• Remove sawdust and debris from the guide bar groove and sprocket area.
• Store the chainsaw in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
• Drain the fuel tank if storing for extended periods.
