1. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the YEX-BUR Cordless Paint Sprayer. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
General Safety Precautions
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) and respiratory protection (mask or respirator) to prevent inhalation of paint fumes.
- Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area to disperse paint fumes and reduce the risk of fire or health hazards.
- Keep children and bystanders away from the operating area.
- Do not operate the sprayer near open flames, pilot lights, or other ignition sources. Paint and solvents can be flammable.
- Always disconnect the battery before cleaning, adjusting, or performing maintenance on the sprayer.
Battery Safety
- This paint sprayer is compatible with Ryobi 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion, NiCd, and NiMh batteries (P102, P103, P104, P105, P107, P108, P109, P190 and more). Batteries are not included.
- Use only the specified battery types. Using incompatible batteries may damage the tool or cause injury.
- Follow the battery manufacturer's guidelines for safe handling, charging, and disposal of batteries.
- The sprayer features a built-in low-voltage protection chip that will automatically stop operation if the battery voltage drops below 15V to prolong battery and tool lifespan.
Liquid Handling Safety
- Always dilute paint and primer as directed by the paint manufacturer and this manual. Improper dilution can affect spray quality and potentially damage the sprayer.
- Exercise caution when handling pressurized liquids. Do not point the sprayer at people or animals.
- Refer to the paint and solvent manufacturer's safety data sheets (SDS) for specific handling, storage, and disposal instructions.

3. Setup
Proper setup is crucial for optimal performance and safety.
3.1 Battery Installation
- Ensure the paint sprayer is turned off.
- Align the Ryobi 18V battery (not included) with the battery interface at the base of the sprayer handle.
- Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely.
3.2 Attaching the Spray Container
- Unscrew the spray container from the sprayer unit by turning it counter-clockwise.
- Once filled with prepared paint, align the container with the sprayer unit and screw it on clockwise until securely tightened.
3.3 Nozzle Selection and Spray Pattern Adjustment
The sprayer includes four nozzle sizes and supports three spray patterns:
- Nozzle Sizes: 1.0mm, 1.8mm, 2.5mm (pre-installed), 3.0mm. Select the appropriate nozzle based on paint viscosity and desired spray output.
- Spray Patterns: Horizontal (180°), Vertical (90°), Circular (45°).

Figure 3.1: Nozzle Sizes and Spray Patterns
- To change the nozzle, unscrew the front cap of the sprayer. Replace the current nozzle with the desired size and re-attach the cap securely.
- To adjust the spray pattern, rotate the 'Shape Switch' on the front of the sprayer to select between horizontal, vertical, or circular spray.
- Adjust the flow control knob (located near the trigger) to regulate the paint output volume.
3.4 Paint Preparation and Dilution
Proper paint viscosity is essential for a smooth, even spray. Use the included viscosity cup to test your paint.

Figure 3.2: Measuring Paint Viscosity

Figure 3.3: Paint Dilution Guide
- Stir your paint thoroughly.
- Dip the viscosity cup into the paint and fill it completely.
- Lift the cup and measure the time it takes for the paint to completely flow out of the bottom hole.
- Compare the outflow time to the guide in Figure 3.3. If the time is too long, dilute the paint with the appropriate thinner (water for water-based paints, mineral spirits/paint thinner for oil-based paints) in small increments, stirring well after each addition, and re-test until the desired viscosity is achieved.
- Once diluted, pour the paint through one of the included paint filters into the spray container to remove any impurities that could clog the nozzle.
For a visual guide on setup, refer to the step-by-step image below:

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Pre-Operation Check
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and securely installed.
- Verify the spray container is filled with properly diluted and filtered paint.
- Confirm the desired nozzle and spray pattern are selected.
- Test the spray pattern on a piece of scrap material (cardboard, wood) to ensure even coverage and adjust flow/pattern as needed.
4.2 Spraying Technique
- Hold the sprayer approximately 8-12 inches (20-30 cm) from the surface.
- Press the trigger switch to begin spraying.
- Move the sprayer in smooth, even strokes, overlapping each pass by about 50% to ensure uniform coverage.
- Release the trigger at the end of each stroke to prevent paint buildup.
- Maintain a consistent speed and distance from the surface for best results.

5. Maintenance
Cleaning the paint sprayer immediately after each use is essential to prevent clogging and ensure long-term performance.
5.1 Cleaning Procedure

Figure 5.1: Cleaning Steps
- Empty Container: Disconnect the battery. Empty any remaining paint from the spray container back into its original can.
- Initial Rinse: Pour a small amount of appropriate cleaning solution (water for water-based paints, mineral spirits/paint thinner for oil-based paints) into the container. Reattach the container and spray the cleaning solution into a waste bucket until clear.
- Disassembly: Disconnect the battery. Unscrew the spray container. Press the release button and separate the front spray assembly from the motor unit.
- Thorough Cleaning: Disassemble the nozzle and air cap. Use the included cleaning brush and nozzle cleaning needle to thoroughly clean all paint-contacting parts (container, suction tube, nozzle, air cap, and spray head). Ensure all paint residue is removed.
- Rinse and Dry: Rinse all cleaned parts with fresh water (if using water-based paint) or appropriate solvent. Allow all components to dry completely before reassembly.
5.2 Storage
- Store the clean, dry paint sprayer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Ensure the battery is removed from the sprayer during storage.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your YEX-BUR Cordless Paint Sprayer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sprayer does not turn on. | Battery not installed correctly or discharged. | Ensure battery is fully charged and securely clicked into place. |
| Motor stops during operation. | Battery voltage too low (below 15V). | Recharge or replace the battery. |
| No paint or inconsistent spray. | Nozzle clogged, paint too thick, suction tube blocked, or air cap dirty. | Clean the nozzle and air cap. Dilute paint to proper viscosity. Check and clean the suction tube. |
| Paint drips or runs. | Paint too thin, spraying too close, or moving too slowly. | Adjust paint dilution. Maintain proper distance and speed. Apply thinner coats. |
| Rough or grainy spray pattern. | Paint not properly filtered, nozzle partially clogged, or paint too thick. | Filter paint before filling container. Clean nozzle. Adjust paint dilution. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support.
