Wiring Connections

The COL800 supports both low-impedance (8-ohm) and high-impedance (70V/100V) distributed audio systems.

  • 8-Ohm Operation: For direct connection to a low-impedance amplifier, ensure the speaker is switched to 8-ohm mode. Connect the amplifier's output to the speaker's input terminals.
  • 70V/100V Distributed Systems: For use with constant voltage systems, select the desired wattage tap (20W multi-tap transformer) on the speaker. Connect to the appropriate terminals of your 70V or 100V amplifier.

Always ensure power is off before making any connections. Use appropriate gauge speaker wire for your installation.

Operating Instructions

Once installed and wired correctly, the JBL COL800 speaker is ready for operation.

Powering On

Ensure your audio source (mixer, amplifier) is connected and powered on. Gradually increase the volume level from your amplifier or audio source to the desired listening level. Avoid sudden high volume levels to prevent speaker damage.

Sound Optimization

The COL800 is designed for clear sound reproduction. Adjust equalization settings on your amplifier or mixer as needed to suit the acoustic environment and program material. The speaker's wide horizontal and focused vertical coverage helps distribute sound evenly across the listening area.

Connectivity

The COL800 primarily uses wired auxiliary connections for audio input. Ensure secure connections to prevent signal loss or interference.

Maintenance

The JBL COL800 speaker requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-term performance.

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the speaker cabinet with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed immediately by a dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Environmental Protection: The IP54 rating provides protection against dust and splashing water. For outdoor or damp environments, ensure the input terminal cover is properly installed to protect connections. Periodically inspect the grille for any debris and gently clean if necessary.
  • Connection Checks: Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
