4. Setup and Installation

The HARFO Smart Door Lock is designed for easy installation with minimal tools. A Phillips head screwdriver is the primary tool required. No extra drilling is needed for standard door preparations, and no locksmith is typically required.

4.1. Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Ensure your door thickness is between 1 3/8 inch and 2 3/16 inch (35mm-55mm).
  • Confirm the door has a standard bore hole for a lever lock.
  • Gather a Phillips head screwdriver.
  • Have 4 AA batteries ready (not included).

4.2. Installation Steps

  1. Remove Existing Hardware: Unscrew and remove your current door knob and latch mechanism.
  2. Install Latch: Insert the new latch into the door edge and secure it with screws. Ensure the latch bolt faces the correct direction for your door swing.
  3. Install Exterior Assembly: Thread the spindle and wiring through the door's bore hole from the exterior side. Align the exterior assembly with the latch.
  4. Install Interior Mounting Plate: From the interior side, connect the wiring and secure the interior mounting plate to the exterior assembly using the provided screws. Ensure the plate is flush and stable.
  5. Connect Interior Assembly: Connect the wiring from the exterior assembly to the interior assembly. Carefully align the interior assembly with the mounting plate and secure it with screws.
  6. Insert Batteries: Open the battery cover on the interior assembly and insert 4 AA batteries. Close the cover securely.
  7. Test Operation: Test the handle movement and latch operation from both sides.

4.3. Reversible Handle Direction

The HARFO Smart Door Lock features a reversible handle, making it suitable for both left-handed and right-handed doors. Refer to the detailed instructions in the included user manual for changing the handle direction if needed.

5. Operating the Smart Door Lock

Your HARFO Smart Door Lock offers five convenient ways to unlock your door:

5.1. Unlocking Methods

  • Fingerprint: Place your registered finger on the biometric sensor for quick access. The lock will flash green upon successful unlock.
  • Passcode: Enter your programmed passcode on the digital keypad. The anti-peep function allows you to enter random digits before or after your actual code to protect your privacy.
  • IC Card: Tap one of the included IC cards against the keypad area to unlock the door.
  • Mobile App (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi):
    • Bluetooth Control: Use the dedicated mobile application (TTLock App recommended) to unlock the door via Bluetooth when you are within range.
    • Remote Wi-Fi Access (Gateway Required): For remote unlocking and advanced features like checking access records and setting codes from anywhere, pair your lock with a HARFO Wi-Fi Gateway (sold separately).
  • Physical Key: In case of battery depletion or other emergencies, use one of the provided backup physical keys to unlock the door. The keyhole is discreetly located behind a magnetic cover on the handle.

5.2. Smart Features and Modes

  • Auto-Lock: The lock can be configured to automatically lock after a set period of time, ensuring your property remains secure.
  • Private Mode: This mode can be activated from the interior side of the lock, preventing any external access (fingerprint, passcode, IC card, app) until manually deactivated. Ideal for enhanced privacy.
  • User Management: Authorize multiple administrators and generate permanent, one-time, or customized passcodes for guests, housekeepers, or temporary visitors via the app.
  • Access Records: View a detailed history of who entered and when through the mobile application.
  • Voice Control Integration: When paired with the HARFO Wi-Fi Gateway (sold separately), the lock supports voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Battery Replacement

The HARFO Smart Door Lock is powered by 4 AA batteries, offering up to 1 year of battery life. The mobile app will provide low battery alerts. To replace batteries:

  1. Remove the battery cover on the interior assembly.
  2. Replace all 4 AA batteries with new ones.
  3. Securely close the battery cover.

6.2. Emergency Power

If the lock's battery completely drains, an emergency USB port is located at the bottom of the exterior assembly. You can use a power bank to temporarily charge the lock and gain access.

6.3. Cleaning

Wipe the lock's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or electronic components.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Lock not responding Low or dead batteries. Replace batteries or use emergency USB power.
Fingerprint not recognized Finger is wet, dirty, or improperly placed. Unregistered fingerprint. Ensure finger is clean and dry. Reposition finger. Register fingerprint via app.
Passcode not working Incorrect code entered. Code expired or deactivated. Verify passcode. Check app for code status.
App connection issues Bluetooth is off. Lock is out of range. Gateway not connected (for Wi-Fi). Enable Bluetooth. Move closer to the lock. Check Gateway connection.
Lock does not auto-lock Auto-lock feature is disabled or timer is set too long. Enable auto-lock and adjust timer settings in the app.
