Westek SLC9BC Smart Programmable Light Control Instruction Manual

Model: SLC9BC

Introduction

The Westek SLC9BC Smart Programmable Light Control is designed to convert any standard light socket into an automatic light. It features programmable settings for dusk-to-dawn operation or timed shut-off after dusk, enhancing convenience and security. This device is compatible with LED, incandescent, and CFL bulbs up to 100 watts.

Safety Information

  • Indoor Use Only: This device is intended for indoor use. Do not use in outdoor fixtures exposed to rain or direct weather.
  • Fixture Compatibility: Do not use with opaque or frosted glass light fixtures, as this may interfere with the light sensor's operation.
  • Bulb Wattage: Ensure the connected bulb does not exceed 100 watts.
  • Electrical Safety: Always ensure power is off at the switch or circuit breaker before installation or removal.
  • Physical Fit: The device adds approximately 2 inches to the height of the bulb. Verify adequate clearance in your fixture to prevent overheating or damage.

Product Overview

The Westek SLC9BC is a compact light control unit that screws into a standard E26 medium bulb base. It integrates a light sensor and a programmable timer.

Setup and Installation

  1. Power Off: Turn off the power to the light fixture at the wall switch or circuit breaker before beginning installation.
  2. Screw in Control: Carefully screw the Westek SLC9BC light control into the existing E26 medium base light socket. Ensure it is securely tightened.
  3. Install Bulb: Screw your desired light bulb (LED, incandescent, or CFL, up to 100W) into the Westek SLC9BC unit.
  4. Adjust Orientation (if needed): The unit includes a small spring-loaded terminal on the base. This allows for minor rotation of the unit within the socket to ensure the light sensor faces an appropriate direction, even if the socket is not fully tightened. This helps optimize light detection.
  5. Power On: Restore power to the light fixture.

Operating Instructions

The SLC9BC offers multiple operating modes, selected via the rotary dial on the side of the unit.

  • Dusk-to-Dawn (D): Set the dial to 'D'. In this mode, the light will automatically turn on when ambient light levels fall below a certain threshold (dusk) and turn off when ambient light levels rise (dawn).
  • Timed Off (2, 5, 8 hours): Set the dial to '2', '5', or '8'. In these modes, the light will turn on at dusk and remain on for the selected duration (2, 5, or 8 hours) before automatically turning off.
  • Random Off: This feature is integrated into the timed off settings for enhanced security. The actual shut-off time may vary slightly from the set duration to give the appearance of an occupied home.

Important Considerations:

  • Ensure the light sensor is not obstructed by the fixture or other objects.
  • Avoid installing the unit in fixtures with opaque or frosted glass, as this can block the sensor and prevent proper operation.
  • The sensor requires sufficient ambient light to detect day/night cycles.

Maintenance

The Westek SLC9BC light control requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Sensor Clarity: Ensure the light sensor remains clean and free from obstructions to maintain accurate operation.
  • Bulb Replacement: When replacing a bulb, always turn off power to the fixture first.
