TARARIUM IX-90 Turtle Tank Filter Instruction Manual

Model: IX-90

Brand: TARARIUM

Introduction

The TARARIUM IX-90 Internal Filter is designed to provide efficient 3-stage bio-filtration for freshwater and saltwater environments, including turtle tanks, aquariums, and habitats for reptiles, shrimp, and frogs. Its adjustable power and low water level operation make it versatile for various setups, ensuring clear and healthy water for your aquatic pets.

Safety Information

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Avoid placing the filter near the edge of the aquarium to prevent it from falling and causing injury.
  • Be cautious of water splashing during use.
  • Ensure the filter is fully submerged before plugging it into a power source.
  • Always unplug the filter before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

Product Features

  • 3-Stage Bio-Filtration: Utilizes dense, double-sided mesh sponges (white & black) to filter out debris, fish waste, food residue, plant leaves, and fine particles. Ceramic bio-balls provide biological media for odor absorption, discoloration removal, and waste breakdown.
  • Adjustable Water Flow: Features a powerful pump with adjustable flow settings to meet different tank requirements. The pump automatically restarts if power is interrupted and restored.
  • Low Water Level Operation: Designed to operate effectively at a minimum water level of 2 inches (5.08 cm), making it ideal for turtle tanks and other low-water habitats.
  • Easy Maintenance: Convenient top lid canister allows for quick and easy access for media cleaning and replacement.
  • Waterfall Design: The integrated waterfall feature aids in water aeration, enhancing the vitality and interaction of aquatic life.
  • 360° Bottom Suction: Ensures stable and sufficient water flow, promoting fast water purification from all angles. The two-tier design is fish-safe.

Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: After proper installation and submersion, plug in the filter. Water will begin to flow from the waterfall outlet.
  2. Adjust Water Flow: Locate the adjustable flow knob on the top of the filter unit. Rotate the knob to increase or decrease the water flow rate according to your tank's needs and the preferences of your aquatic inhabitants.
  3. Low Water Level Operation: The IX-90 is designed to function efficiently even with water levels as low as 2 inches. This makes it suitable for habitats where full submersion is not desired or possible.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your TARARIUM IX-90 filter. Perform cleaning every 2-4 weeks, or as needed based on tank conditions.

  1. Unplug the Filter: Always disconnect the filter from the power source before beginning any maintenance.
  2. Remove from Tank: Carefully remove the filter unit from the aquarium.
  3. Access Filter Media: Open the top lid of the filter unit to access the filter sponges and ceramic bio-balls.
  4. Clean Filter Sponges: Rinse the dense mesh filter sponges thoroughly under clean, dechlorinated water. Avoid using tap water directly as chlorine can harm beneficial bacteria. Gently squeeze the sponges to remove accumulated debris. Replace sponges if they are heavily worn or no longer effective.
  5. Clean Ceramic Bio-Balls: Gently rinse the ceramic bio-balls in a small amount of tank water or dechlorinated water. Avoid excessive cleaning, as this can remove beneficial bacteria.
  6. Clean Impeller and Housing: Remove the impeller cover and the impeller itself. Clean any debris or buildup from the impeller and its housing using a small brush.
  7. Reassemble and Reinstall: Reassemble all components, ensuring they fit snugly. Place the filter back into the tank, secure with suction cups, and ensure it is fully submerged before plugging it back in.
