Setup

Before operating your Generac GP8000E generator, ensure proper assembly and initial setup. This typically involves attaching the wheels and handles, adding engine oil, and fueling the unit.

Initial Assembly:

1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the generator and all components from the packaging.
2. Wheel Installation: Attach the heavy-duty wheels to the generator frame using the provided hardware. Ensure they are securely fastened for stability and mobility.
3. Handle Assembly: Install the fold-down handle. This handle aids in transporting the unit.
4. Add Engine Oil: Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick. Add the recommended type and amount of engine oil as specified in the owner's manual. Do not overfill.
5. Fueling: Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. The tank has a 7.9-gallon capacity. Use the built-in fuel gauge to monitor levels.

Operating Instructions

Always operate the generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from windows and doors, to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Ensure the generator is on a level surface.

Starting the Generator:

1. Fuel Valve: Open the fuel valve.
2. Choke: If starting a cold engine, apply the choke.
3. Electric Start: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the 'START' position. Hold until the engine starts.
4. Manual Pull Start: If the electric start battery is low or as an alternative, firmly pull the recoil start cord until the engine starts.
5. Choke Adjustment: Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke to the 'RUN' position.

Connecting Appliances:

The GP8000E offers multiple outlets for various power needs:

• 120V Outlets: Use for standard household appliances and tools.
• 120V/240V Twist-Lock Outlet: For higher power demands or connecting to a transfer switch for home backup.

Always ensure the total wattage of connected appliances does not exceed the generator's running wattage (8000W) or starting wattage (10,000W).

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your Generac generator. Refer to the owner's manual for detailed maintenance schedules.

Key Maintenance Tasks:

• Check Oil Level: Regularly check the engine oil level using the dipstick. Add oil if necessary. The low-oil level shutdown feature will automatically protect the engine from damage.
• Change Oil: Change the engine oil at recommended intervals, typically after the first 20-30 hours of operation and then every 50-100 hours or annually.
• Air Filter: Inspect and clean or replace the air filter as needed.

• Hour Meter: Utilize the built-in hour meter to track maintenance intervals and ensure timely servicing.

Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your Generac generator.

Generator Will Not Start:

• Check Fuel Level: Ensure there is sufficient fresh gasoline in the tank.
• Check Oil Level: Verify the engine oil level. The low-oil shutdown feature will prevent starting if the oil is too low.
• Battery Charge (Electric Start): For electric start, ensure the battery is fully charged. If not, use the pull start or charge the battery. The battery will charge while the generator is running.
• Choke Position: Ensure the choke is in the correct position for starting (fully choked for cold starts, gradually opened as it warms).
• Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage. Clean or replace if necessary. Check the spark plug gap (0.030 inches).
• Solenoid Issue: If the generator does not turn over at all, even with a charged battery, the starter solenoid might be faulty. This component controls power to the starter motor.

COsense® Technology Activation:

• If the COsense® indicator light illuminates and the generator shuts down, it indicates high levels of carbon monoxide. Immediately move the generator to an open, well-ventilated outdoor area. Do not operate it indoors or in enclosed spaces.
