Setup & Installation

The Perma Child Safety Ret retractable Baby Gate is designed for hardware mounting. It can be installed inside or outside of openings, including doorways, hallways, and at the top or bottom of stairs.

Tools Required: Drill, screwdriver, pencil, measuring tape.

  1. Determine Placement and Mark Holes

Identify the desired location for your gate. The gate can extend up to 71 inches wide and is 33 inches tall.

Hold the installation guides vertically against the mounting surface, ensuring the end marked 'FLOOR' is even with the floor. Mark the screw hole positions.

Note: Leave at least 20mm (3/4") between the guide and the edge of the opening to ensure the gate won't overhang.

If installing over skirting boards or baseboards, use the provided spacers to ensure a flush fit. Measure the width of your skirting/baseboard and use the closest number of spacers to fit this width. Each spacer is 5mm (3/16") thick.

Align the Catch Mounts on the opposite side where the gate will extend and latch. Use the panhead screws to secure each mount firmly.

  4. Attach the Gate Assembly

Align the main gate assembly directly above the installed Gate Mounts. Slide the gate straight down over the mounts until it locks into place with a 'Click'.

  5. Remove the Gate Assembly (Optional)

To remove the gate, push and hold the release button located on the top mount while sliding the gate upwards.

Operating Instructions

Your retractable gate features a 3-way locking system for flexible use:

  • 1. Locked Position: The gate is fully retracted and the button is twisted to the 'Locked' icon. The gate cannot be extended.
  • 2. Quick Unlock: Push and twist the button to align with the 'dot' icon, then release. Pull the handle to extend the gate. When the handle is released, the gate automatically locks the release mechanism, preventing further retraction until manually unlocked.
  • 3. Full Unlock: Twist the button to align with the 'unlocked' icon. This will unlock the gate to freely open and close without automatically locking the release mechanism. Manually re-engage the lock when desired.

Extending and Retracting the Gate

  1. To Extend the Gate:

Ensure the gate is in 'Quick Unlock' or 'Full Unlock' mode.

Grasp the handle and pull the mesh barrier across the opening.

Align the handle with the Catch Mounts and clip it securely into both the upper and lower catches.

  2. To Retract the Gate:

Unclip the handle from the Catch Mounts.

Hold the handle and guide the mesh barrier back into the main assembly. Always hold the handle and guide the gate evenly back into its original position to prevent rapid retraction.

Maintenance

  • Clean the mesh and plastic components with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Regularly inspect all mounting hardware and the gate mechanism for any signs of wear or damage. Tighten screws as needed.
  • For outdoor use, periodically check for debris accumulation in the retraction mechanism and clear it to ensure smooth operation.

Troubleshooting

  • Gate does not retract smoothly: Check for any obstructions in the retraction mechanism. Ensure the 'Full Unlock' mode is engaged if you desire free movement without automatic locking.
  • Gate does not latch securely: Verify that the Catch Mounts are aligned correctly and securely fastened. Ensure the mesh is fully extended and taut when attempting to latch.
  • Gate feels loose after installation: Re-check all mounting screws and tighten them. Ensure spacers are used correctly if installing over baseboards.
