- Pinpoint Detection Area: The tip of the probe for precise target location.
- Probe Side Detection Area: The side of the probe for broader scanning.
- LED Flashlight: Illuminates the target area in low light conditions.
- Power Button / Rapid Re-Tune: Controls power and allows for quick re-tuning.
- Sensitivity / Audio Indication / Ferrous Tone ID Adjustment: Buttons for adjusting operational settings.
- Speaker: Provides audio feedback for detected targets.
- Waterproof Seal Battery Cap: Secures the battery compartment and ensures waterproof integrity.
Setup
1. Battery Installation
The PRO-FIND 40 requires one 9V battery (included). Ensure the battery is installed correctly for proper operation.
- Unscrew the waterproof seal battery cap at the rear of the pinpointer by turning it counter-clockwise.
- Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align correctly with the markings inside the compartment.
- Screw the battery cap back on clockwise until it is finger-tight to ensure a waterproof seal. Do not overtighten.
2. Attaching the Lanyard and Holster
The included lanyard and holster provide convenience and security during use.
- Attach the lanyard to the designated loop on the pinpointer and secure it to your wrist to prevent accidental drops.
- The durable holster can be attached to any belt, keeping your PRO-FIND 40 readily accessible while detecting.

Operating Instructions
1. Powering On/Off
- To power on, press and hold the Power button until you hear a short beep.
- To power off, press and hold the Power button until the device shuts down.
2. Rapid Re-Tune
The Rapid Re-Tune function helps to quickly eliminate ground interference or narrow the detection field.
- To re-tune, quickly press the Power button once. This will reset the detection field.
- Use this feature to pinpoint targets more accurately by reducing the detection area as you get closer.
3. Adjusting Sensitivity
The PRO-FIND 40 offers 5 sensitivity levels to optimize performance in various ground conditions and maximize depth.

Image: A person wearing gloves is using the Minelab PRO-FIND 40 pinpointer to search for targets in a grassy area near a stream, illustrating the adjustable sensitivity feature for different ground conditions.
- Press the '+' or '-' buttons to increase or decrease the sensitivity level.
- Higher sensitivity levels provide greater depth but may be more susceptible to ground noise. Lower sensitivity levels reduce noise but decrease detection depth.
4. Ferrous Tone ID
The Ferrous Tone ID helps distinguish between ferrous (iron) and non-ferrous targets.
- The pinpointer will emit two different audio responses: one for ferrous metals and another for non-ferrous metals.
- Refer to the product's quick start guide or Minelab's website for specific tone interpretations.
5. Audio and Vibration Indication
The PRO-FIND 40 provides both audio and vibration feedback, which intensify as the probe approaches a target.
- The audio tone will increase in pitch and frequency.
- The vibration intensity will increase, providing tactile feedback, especially useful in noisy environments or underwater.
6. LED Flashlight
The built-in LED flashlight assists in target recovery in low-light conditions.
- The flashlight automatically activates when the pinpointer is on.
7. Waterproof Operation
The PRO-FIND 40 is fully waterproof up to 3 meters (10 feet), making it suitable for use in wet environments.

Image: The red and black Minelab PRO-FIND 40 pinpointer is shown partially submerged in clear water, illustrating its waterproof capability.
- Ensure the battery cap is securely tightened before submerging the device.
- The pinpointer will function normally underwater, providing both audio and vibration feedback.
8. Detector Interference Free (DIF) Technology
DIF technology significantly reduces interference with an operating metal detector when the pinpointer is switched off.

- This feature helps maintain stable operation of your main metal detector when the pinpointer is not actively in use.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
- After each use, especially in wet or dirty conditions, rinse the pinpointer with fresh water.
- Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ensure the battery cap area is clean and free of debris to maintain a proper waterproof seal.
2. Storage
- Store the PRO-FIND 40 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- If storing for an extended period, remove the 9V battery to prevent leakage and potential damage to the device.
3. Battery Replacement
- Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator activates (if applicable) or when performance degrades.
- Always use a high-quality alkaline or rechargeable 9V battery.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed battery. | Check battery orientation. Replace with a new 9V battery. |
| Weak or inconsistent detection. | Low battery; incorrect sensitivity setting; high ground mineralization. | Replace battery. Adjust sensitivity to a higher level. Use Rapid Re-Tune to compensate for ground conditions. |
| False signals or excessive noise. | High sensitivity setting; electromagnetic interference; highly mineralized ground. | Reduce sensitivity. Move away from power lines or other electronic devices. Use Rapid Re-Tune. |
| Water leakage into battery compartment. | Battery cap not securely tightened; damaged O-ring seal. | Ensure battery cap is finger-tight. Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary. |
