Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Shindaiwa 362TS-35 Chainsaw. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the chainsaw to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury or damage.
The Shindaiwa 362TS-35 is a powerful and reliable chainsaw designed for professional use, featuring a 35 cm bar. Key features include a quick-release filter cover for easy maintenance, a side chain tensioner for convenient adjustment, a standard sprocket bar for effective cutting, an anchoring ring for secure attachment during tree climbing or storage, an ergonomic handle for comfortable use, and an easy start system with primer and Soft Start decompressor for smooth ignition.
Safety Information
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including a helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and safety boots when operating the chainsaw. Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders and obstacles. Never operate the chainsaw under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Always inspect the chainsaw before each use for any damage or loose parts.
For detailed safety guidelines, refer to local regulations and industry best practices for chainsaw operation.
Setup
Unpacking and Assembly
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all parts are present according to the packing list. Assemble the guide bar and saw chain as per the instructions below.

Fuel and Chain Oil
The Shindaiwa 362TS-35 operates on a two-stroke engine. Use a high-quality two-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline at the ratio specified in the engine manual (typically 50:1 or 25:1, refer to specific engine instructions). Fill the fuel tank carefully, avoiding spills.
Fill the chain oil reservoir with appropriate bar and chain lubricant. This is crucial for the longevity of the guide bar and chain.
Chain Tension Adjustment
The chainsaw features a convenient side chain tensioner. To adjust the chain tension, loosen the bar nuts slightly. Use the tensioning screw located on the side of the chainsaw to achieve the correct tension. The chain should be snug against the bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. Retighten the bar nuts securely.

Operating Instructions
Starting the Chainsaw
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake.
- Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Set the choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position.
- Pull the starter cord firmly and smoothly until the engine fires briefly.
- Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE or RUN position.
- Pull the starter cord again until the engine starts.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few moments before disengaging the chain brake and beginning operation.

Cutting Techniques
Always maintain a firm grip on both handles. Keep your feet apart for good balance. Plan your cuts to avoid kickback. Be aware of falling branches and logs. For tree climbing applications, utilize the integrated anchoring ring to secure the chainsaw.

Maintenance
Air Filter Cleaning
The air filter cover features a quick-release mechanism for easy access. Regularly inspect and clean the air filter to ensure optimal engine performance and longevity. A dirty air filter can lead to reduced power and increased fuel consumption.

Figure 5: Air Filter. This image displays the air filter, accessible via the quick-release cover, emphasizing the importance of regular cleaning for engine efficiency.
Chain Sharpening
A sharp chain is essential for safe and efficient cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly using a round file of the correct diameter for your chain type. Ensure all cutters are sharpened to the same length and angle.
Guide Bar Maintenance
Clean the guide bar groove regularly to remove sawdust and debris. Flip the guide bar periodically to ensure even wear. Check the sprocket nose for smooth rotation and lubrication.
Spark Plug Inspection
Inspect the spark plug periodically. Clean or replace it if it is fouled or worn. Ensure the gap is set correctly according to manufacturer specifications.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start | No fuel; fouled spark plug; incorrect choke setting; flooded engine | Check fuel level; clean/replace spark plug; adjust choke; clear flooded engine (refer to manual) |
| Loss of power during operation | Dirty air filter; dull chain; incorrect chain tension; improper fuel mix | Clean air filter; sharpen chain; adjust chain tension; use correct fuel mix |
| Chain not oiling | Empty oil tank; clogged oil port; damaged oil pump | Refill oil tank; clean oil port; consult service center for pump issues |
