2. Operating Instructions
The BOTHSTAR YJ42 offers multiple ways to secure and access your door.
Image: This graphic highlights the multi-functional security features of the BOTHSTAR YJ42, such as high-precision fingerprint recognition, programmable auto-lock, voice navigation, and the ability to share remote access codes.
2.1 Unlocking Methods
- Fingerprint: Place a registered finger on the fingerprint sensor. The lock will unlock in approximately 0.25 seconds upon successful recognition.
- Keypad: Enter your registered user code on the keypad, followed by the '#' key.
- Backup Key: Insert the physical key into the keyhole and turn to unlock.
- Remote Sharing Codes: Generate temporary or one-time codes remotely for guest access. These codes can be set with specific usage limits or expiration dates.
2.2 Programming and Settings
The lock features voice navigation to assist with programming. Refer to the detailed programming section in your full manual for specific steps.
- Adding/Deleting Fingerprints: The lock supports up to 100 unique fingerprints.
- Adding/Deleting User Codes: Up to 50 user codes can be stored.
- Auto-Lock Function: Configure the lock to automatically re-lock after a set delay (2 seconds to 12 hours). This can also be disabled for periods of high traffic.
- Manual Lock: The lock can be manually locked from either side.
- Silent Mode: Deactivate the buzzer for quiet operation.
- Disguise Code: Enter your actual code within a longer sequence of random numbers to prevent others from guessing your code based on finger smudges or observation.
2.3 Dual Cylinder Functionality
Both the interior and exterior knobs feature independent access control. This allows for enhanced security, requiring authentication (fingerprint, code, or key) to unlock from either side. This feature is particularly useful for exterior doors, gates, or areas requiring strict access control.
Image: The BOTHSTAR YJ42 lock is shown installed on an outdoor gate, demonstrating its suitability for both indoor and outdoor environments, even in wet conditions.
3. Maintenance
3.1 Battery Replacement
The lock will provide a voice prompt when the battery level is low. Replace all 4 AAA batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation. To replace, open the battery compartment on the interior knob, remove old batteries, and insert new ones with correct polarity.
In case of completely dead batteries, the lock can be temporarily powered using a 5V USB-C cord connected to the emergency power port (usually located on the exterior knob) to gain access.
3.2 Cleaning
Wipe the lock's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish and electronic components.
3.3 Weather Resistance
The BOTHSTAR YJ42 lock has an IPX6 waterproof rating, designed to withstand rain and various weather conditions. It operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -22°F to +176°F (-30°C to +80°C).
Note: While the lock is weather-resistant, extreme moisture may temporarily affect the fingerprint reader's performance. In such cases, use the keypad or physical key for access.
4. Troubleshooting
4.1 Lock Not Responding
- Check Batteries: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and not depleted. Replace if necessary.
- Emergency Power: If batteries are completely dead, use a 5V USB-C power bank to temporarily power the lock and gain entry.
4.2 Fingerprint Reader Issues
- Wet Conditions: The fingerprint reader may have difficulty recognizing prints when wet. Dry your finger and the sensor, or use the keypad/key.
- Incorrect Placement: Ensure your entire registered fingerprint covers the sensor.
- Re-register Fingerprint: If issues persist, delete and re-register your fingerprint.
4.3 Keypad Not Working / Codes Not Accepted
- Incorrect Code: Verify you are entering the correct user code.
- Keypad Illumination: The keypad may not illuminate before entering the code. Ensure you are pressing the correct numbers.
- Disguise Code: If using the disguise code feature, ensure your actual code is embedded correctly within the longer sequence.
- Battery Level: Low batteries can affect keypad responsiveness.
4.4 Sync Functionality Between Knobs
Some users have reported that the sync function for codes and fingerprints between the two knobs may not always work as expected. If this occurs, program each side of the lock manually.
4.5 Random Beeping or Flashing
This may indicate a low battery warning or a system error. Replace batteries first. If the issue persists, consult the full manual for factory reset procedures or contact customer support.
