4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Align the battery pack with the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the battery upwards until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, press the release latch and slide the battery downwards.

4.2 Antenna Attachment

  1. Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on top of the radio until it is firmly seated.
  2. Do not overtighten.

4.3 Belt Clip Installation

  1. Align the belt clip with the designated slots on the back of the radio.
  2. Secure the belt clip using the provided screws.

4.4 Charging the Battery

The RA79 can be charged using the included USB desktop charger or directly via its Type-C port.

  1. Connect the USB desktop charger to a power source.
  2. Place the radio (with battery installed) into the charging cradle. The indicator light will show charging status.
  3. Alternatively, connect a USB Type-C cable directly to the radio's charging port.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

  1. To power on, rotate the power/volume knob clockwise.
  2. Continue rotating to adjust the volume.
  3. To power off, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until it clicks.

5.2 Channel Selection

The RA79 supports both Channel Mode and VFO (Frequency Mode).

  • Channel Mode: Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select a pre-programmed channel.
  • VFO Mode: Enter frequencies directly using the keypad. Press the 'VFO/MR' button to switch between modes.

5.3 Transmitting and Receiving

  1. To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  2. Release the PTT button to receive.
  3. Ensure the selected channel/frequency is clear before transmitting.

5.4 FM Radio Operation

To activate the FM radio function:

  1. Press the 'FM' button (often a dedicated button or a function key).
  2. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to scan for stations or enter a frequency directly.
