5. Setup and Installation

Before proceeding, ensure your system is powered off and disconnected from the AC outlet. Refer to your computer case and motherboard manuals for specific installation instructions.

5.1 Preparing for Installation

  1. Gather Components: Ensure you have the Phanteks Revolt PSU, your chosen modular cables (not included), mounting screws, and your computer case.
  2. Static Discharge: Ground yourself to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) by touching a grounded metal object before handling components.

5.2 Installing the Power Supply

  1. Mount the PSU: Carefully slide the Phanteks Revolt PSU into the designated power supply bay in your computer case. Secure it with the provided screws.
  2. Connect Modular Cables: This PSU is fully modular. Connect only the necessary cables to the PSU's modular ports. Refer to the "Modular Cable Connectors" image in Section 4.2 for port identification.
    • Connect the 18+10pin cable to the motherboard.
    • Connect 8pin cables for CPU and PCIe as required by your motherboard and graphics card(s). The 12VHPWR connector is specifically for PCIe 5.0 GPUs.
    • Connect 6pin cables for SATA devices (SSDs, HDDs) and Molex peripherals.
  3. Route Cables: Route the connected cables neatly through your case for optimal airflow and aesthetics.
  4. Connect to Components: Connect the other end of each modular cable to its respective component (motherboard, CPU, GPU, storage drives, etc.). Ensure all connections are firm and secure.
  5. AC Power Cord: Connect the provided C14-C13 AC power cord to the PSU's AC inlet. Do not connect to a wall outlet yet.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Initial Power-Up

  1. After all internal connections are made and secured, connect the AC power cord from the PSU to a grounded wall outlet or surge protector.
  2. Flip the main power switch on the rear of the PSU to the "ON" (I) position.
  3. Power on your computer system using the case's power button.

6.2 Hybrid Fan Control

The Phanteks Revolt PSU features a 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan with hybrid fan control. A switch on the rear panel allows you to toggle between fan modes:

  • Hybrid Mode (Default): The fan remains off under low loads for silent operation and only spins up when the power supply reaches a certain temperature or load threshold.
  • Always On Mode: The fan operates continuously, providing constant cooling. This mode may result in slightly higher noise levels but ensures maximum cooling performance.

Select the mode that best suits your preference for noise and cooling.

7. Troubleshooting

If your system does not power on or experiences instability, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the AC power cord is securely connected to both the PSU and the wall outlet.
    • Verify the main power switch on the PSU is in the "ON" (I) position.
    • Check the wall outlet or surge protector for power. Try a different outlet.
    • Use the included PSU tester to verify if the power supply is functioning independently.
  • System Instability/Random Shutdowns:
    • Ensure all modular cables are firmly connected to both the PSU and the components. Loose connections can cause instability.
    • Verify that you are using the correct cables for each component (e.g., CPU power to CPU, PCIe power to GPU).
    • Check for any signs of overheating. Ensure proper airflow within your case.
    • If using the hybrid fan mode, try switching to "Always On" mode to see if it resolves temperature-related issues.
  • Fan Not Spinning:
    • In hybrid fan mode, the fan will not spin under low loads or temperatures. This is normal operation.
    • If the fan does not spin even under load or in "Always On" mode, contact Phanteks support.
  • Burning Smell or Smoke:
    • Immediately disconnect the AC power cord from the wall outlet. Do not attempt to power on the system again.
    • Contact Phanteks support immediately.
