4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting

The THCX8-25/20 contactor is designed for quick and easy installation on a standard 35mm DIN rail. Simply clip the contactor onto the DIN rail until it locks securely into place.

4.2 Wiring Diagram

Refer to the diagram below for proper wiring connections. Ensure all wires are correctly identified and securely terminated to the appropriate terminals (A1, A2 for coil; 1, 2, 3, 4 for main contacts).

Figure 6: Product diagram showing the wiring connections for the AC Contactor. The controlling device connects to A1 and A2, while the output to electrical equipment connects to terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4.

  1. Connect the control circuit (e.g., switch, thermostat) to terminals A1 and A2. This circuit energizes the contactor coil.
  2. Connect the incoming power supply to terminals 1 and 3 (input side of the main contacts).
  3. Connect the load (electrical equipment) to terminals 2 and 4 (output side of the main contacts).
  4. Ensure all connections are tight and insulation is intact.

5. Operating Instructions

The THCX8-25/20 contactor supports both automatic and manual operation modes. The operating lever on the front of the unit allows selection of different states:

Operating positions for TAXNELE AC Contactor

Figure 7: Illustration of the AUTO/Manually Operated Contactor positions: Position I (Manual Turn On), Position I+P (Manual Permanent Turn On), Position auto (Automatic Operation), and Position O (Manual Turn Off).

  • Position O (Manual Turn Off): The contactor is manually turned off. The main contacts are open.
  • Position I (Manual Turn On): The contactor is manually turned on. The main contacts are closed. This position may be momentary or latching depending on the specific model variant.
  • Position I+P (Manual Permanent Turn On): The contactor is manually turned on and remains permanently on, bypassing automatic control.
  • Position AUTO (Automatic Operation): The contactor operates automatically based on the control signal applied to terminals A1 and A2. When the coil is energized, the main contacts close; when de-energized, they open.

6. Maintenance

The TAXNELE THCX8-25/20 AC Contactor is designed for long-term, reliable operation with minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks are recommended:

  • Visual Inspection: Regularly inspect the contactor for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
  • Cleaning: Keep the contactor free from dust and debris. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners.
  • Connection Check: Periodically verify that all terminal screws are tight to ensure good electrical contact and prevent overheating.

7. Troubleshooting

If the contactor is not functioning as expected, consider the following:

  • Contactor does not switch ON/OFF in AUTO mode:
    • Check if the control signal (220V/230VAC) is present at terminals A1 and A2.
    • Ensure the operating lever is set to the 'AUTO' position.
    • Verify the control circuit wiring for any breaks or loose connections.
  • Contactor does not switch ON/OFF manually:
    • Ensure the operating lever is correctly moved to Position I, I+P, or O.
    • Check for any mechanical obstruction preventing the lever from moving freely.
  • No power to the load when contactor is ON:
    • Verify the main power supply to terminals 1 and 3.
    • Check the wiring from terminals 2 and 4 to the load.
    • Inspect the contactor for any signs of internal damage or burnt contacts (only by qualified personnel after disconnecting power).
