This user manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective operation of your Berrcom JXB183 and JXB178 Non-Contact Infrared Forehead Thermometers. Setup

1. Battery Installation

Open the battery compartment cover located at the bottom of the thermometer handle. Insert two AAA batteries (not included) according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment. Close the cover securely.

2. Power On/Off

Press the 'SCAN' button (JXB183) or the main measurement button (JXB178) to turn on the thermometer. The device will perform a self-test and display the last measurement or enter standby mode. The thermometer will automatically turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity.

3. Selecting Temperature Unit (℃/℉)

With the thermometer powered on, press the 'MODE' button (JXB183) or a dedicated unit switch button (JXB178, if available, otherwise refer to specific model instructions for unit change) to toggle between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉). The selected unit will be displayed on the screen.

Operating Instructions

1. Taking Forehead Temperature (Body Mode)

  1. Ensure the thermometer is in 'Body' mode.
  2. Hold the thermometer approximately 0.2-2 inches (0.5-5 cm) from the center of the forehead.
  3. Press the 'SCAN' button (JXB183) or the measurement button (JXB178) once.
  4. The temperature reading will be displayed instantly (within 1 second).
  5. For JXB178, observe the backlight color: Green (normal), Orange (low fever), Red (high fever).

2. Taking Object/Room Temperature (Object/Room Mode)

  1. Press the 'MODE' button to switch to 'Object' or 'Room' mode as desired.
  2. Point the thermometer at the object or area you wish to measure.
  3. Press the 'SCAN' button (JXB183) or the measurement button (JXB178).
  4. The temperature of the object or room will be displayed.

3. Memory Recall

Both JXB183 and JXB178 models can store up to 32 previous temperature readings. To access these memories, press the 'MEM' button. Each press will cycle through the stored readings from most recent to oldest.

4. Mute/Unmute Mode (JXB183)

The JXB183 model features a mute/unmute function. Press the speaker icon button to toggle the sound on or off. This is particularly useful for taking temperatures without disturbing sleeping individuals.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Thermometer

To clean the thermometer, gently wipe the surface and the infrared probe with an alcohol swab or a cotton swab moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water. Ensure the thermometer is dry before storage.

2. Storage

Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, dust, and extreme temperatures. Keep it in its original packaging or a protective case when not in use.

3. Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace both batteries with new ones of the same type (AAA). Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
