6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Making Espresso

6.2 Frothing Milk

The manual steam wand allows you to create creamy milk foam for lattes and cappuccinos.

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) up to just below the spout.
  2. Activate Steam: Press the STEAM button. Wait for the indicator light to become solid, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Briefly open the steam knob to release any condensed water from the wand into an empty cup, then close it.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam knob. Angle the pitcher to create a swirling motion. For foam, keep the tip near the surface; for microfoam, immerse it deeper.

  1. Stop Frothing: Once the milk reaches the desired temperature and texture, close the steam knob and remove the pitcher.
  2. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam knob again to purge any milk from inside the wand.
  3. Cool Down: Important: After frothing milk, the machine is at a higher temperature. To prevent overheat protection mode, allow the machine to cool down before brewing espresso. The 1-cup or 2-cup indicator lights may flash. Follow the cooling procedure in the included guide (e.g., running water through the group head or steam wand until lights are solid again).

7. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your espresso machine.

7.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under running water.
  • Steam Wand: Always wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing milk and purge it briefly.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray regularly. The red indicator will float up when it needs emptying.

7.2 Descaling

Descaling is necessary to remove mineral buildup and maintain machine performance. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage. It is recommended every 2-3 months.

  1. Prepare Descaling Solution: Mix a descaling solution according to the manufacturer's instructions (e.g., white vinegar and water, or a commercial descaler).
  2. Fill Water Tank: Pour the descaling solution into the water tank.
  3. Run Cycle: Place a large container under the group head and steam wand. Turn on the machine. Press the 1-cup button to run half of the solution through the group head.
  4. Steam Wand Descale: Open the steam knob to run the remaining solution through the steam wand.
  5. Rinse: After the descaling solution has run through, rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with fresh water to rinse the machine.
