Setup Guide

This section provides instructions on how to set up your BrosTrend WiFi to Ethernet Adapter using two primary methods: WPS and WEB UI. Choose the method that best suits your needs.

Method 1: WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

The WPS method offers a quick and easy way to connect your adapter to your WiFi router without needing to enter network passwords.

  1. Power on the Adapter: Plug the BrosTrend adapter into a power outlet in the same room as your existing WiFi router. Wait until the LED indicator on the adapter blinks red slowly.
  2. Connect to your WiFi Router: Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your WiFi router. The WPS LED status on your router should change (e.g., start blinking). Immediately after, press the WPS button on the BrosTrend adapter.
  3. Verify Connection: Wait until the LED indicator on the adapter turns either solid blue or solid yellow. A solid blue or yellow light indicates a successful connection with your existing WiFi router. If the LED indicator does not turn solid color, reset the adapter and try the WEB UI method.
  4. Relocate and Connect: Once successfully connected, you can relocate the adapter to a location within the WiFi range of your router where your wired device is located. Connect your wired device (e.g., PC, Smart TV) to the adapter using an Ethernet cable.

Method 2: WEB UI (Web User Interface)

The WEB UI method allows for more detailed configuration and is recommended if WPS setup is not successful or not available.

  1. Power on the Adapter: Plug the BrosTrend adapter into a power outlet. Wait until the LED indicator blinks red slowly.
  2. Connect to Adapter's WiFi: On your wireless device (e.g., smartphone, laptop), connect to the WiFi network broadcast by the adapter. The SSID is typically named BrosTrend_EXT. You can find this information on the product label.
  3. Access Web UI: Once connected to the adapter's WiFi, open a web browser and enter http://brostrendwifi.com in the address bar. You will be directed to the quick setup page.
  4. Create Login Password: For network security, create a login password for future access to the Web UI.
  5. Choose Working Mode: Select "Extender Mode / WiFi to Ethernet Adapter Mode" to extend your existing WiFi network and connect your wired device to WiFi.
  6. Select Existing WiFi Network: The adapter will scan for available WiFi networks. Select your existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks that you want to extend and enter the correct password for each.
  7. Customize Extended WiFi (Optional): You can customize the extended WiFi network name (SSID) and password. Click "Extend" to apply settings.
  8. Verify Connection: Wait until the LED indicator on the adapter turns either solid blue or solid yellow. This indicates a successful connection with your existing WiFi router. If the LED indicator still does not turn solid on, reset it to default factory setting and set it up again.
  9. Relocate and Connect: Once successfully connected, you can relocate the adapter to a location within the WiFi range of your router where your wired device is located. Connect your wired device to the adapter with an Ethernet cable.

Operating the Adapter

The BrosTrend WiFi to Ethernet Adapter functions as a wireless bridge, allowing your wired devices to access your WiFi network. Once set up, the adapter operates automatically.

LED Indicator Status

The LED indicator on the front of the adapter provides important information about its connection status:

  • Solid Blue: The adapter is in a proper position and receiving a strong signal from your router.
  • Solid Yellow: The adapter is receiving a good signal from your router.
  • Solid Red: The adapter is receiving a weak signal from your router. Please relocate the adapter closer to your router.
  • Blinking Red Slowly: The adapter is not connected to your router. Please relocate the adapter closer to your router. If the LED indicator still does not turn solid on, reset it to default factory setting and set it up again.

Connecting Wired Devices

After successful setup, simply connect any wired device to the Gigabit Ethernet port on the adapter using an Ethernet cable. The adapter will then provide internet access to that device via your WiFi network.

Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your BrosTrend WiFi to Ethernet Adapter, follow these general maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly wipe the adapter with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Proper Ventilation: Ensure the adapter is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation slots.
  • Avoid Extreme Conditions: Do not expose the adapter to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Handle with Care: Avoid dropping or subjecting the adapter to strong impacts.
  • Power Off When Not in Use: If you plan not to use the adapter for an extended period, unplug it from the power outlet.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BrosTrend WiFi to Ethernet Adapter, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Connection (LED Blinking Red Slowly): This indicates the adapter is not connected to your router.
    • Ensure the adapter is plugged into a working power outlet.
    • Relocate the adapter closer to your WiFi router.
    • Try the WPS setup method again.
    • If WPS fails, try the WEB UI setup method, ensuring you select the correct WiFi network and enter the correct password.
    • Reset the adapter to factory default settings (usually by pressing and holding the WPS/Reset button for several seconds) and attempt setup again.
  • Weak Signal (LED Solid Red): The adapter is connected but receiving a weak signal.
    • Move the adapter closer to your WiFi router.
    • Ensure there are no major obstructions (thick walls, large metal objects) between the adapter and the router.
    • Adjust the antennas on the adapter for better reception.
  • No Internet Access on Wired Device:
    • Check if the adapter's LED indicator is solid blue or yellow, indicating a successful connection to the router.
    • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the adapter and your wired device.
    • Test the Ethernet cable with another device if possible to rule out a faulty cable.
    • Restart both the adapter and your wired device.
    • Verify your main WiFi router has active internet access.
  • Unexpected Extended WiFi Networks: Some users may observe additional WiFi SSIDs (e.g., BrosTrend_EXT, BrosTrend_5GEXT) even when primarily using the device as a wired adapter. This is part of its extender functionality. While the primary use is for wired devices, the wireless extension is an inherent feature.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please contact BrosTrend customer support.
