4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

To power on your MESTEK WM710A, you need to install the included AAA batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Use the provided screwdriver to open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert 3 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On and Calibration

Follow these steps to power on the device and perform initial calibration:

  1. Press the Power button (Power button icon) to turn on the moisture meter.
  2. Hold the spherical probe in the air, away from any materials, to ensure a dry environment for calibration.
  3. Press and hold the MEAS button for approximately three seconds until 'CAL' appears on the screen, indicating automatic calibration is in progress.
  4. Once calibration is complete, the display will show '0.0' or a very low value, ready for measurement.

5.2 Taking Measurements

To measure moisture content:

  1. Place the spherical probe directly onto the surface of the material you wish to measure. Ensure full contact between the probe and the material.
  2. The device will instantly display the moisture reading on the LCD screen. The measurement depth is between 20-40mm.
  3. The color analog bar on the display will indicate the moisture level: Green for Dry, Yellow for Risk, and Red for Wet.

5.3 Data Hold and Max/Min Record

  • To hold the current measurement on the screen, press the HOLD button. Press it again to release.
  • The device automatically records the maximum (MAX) and minimum (MIN) moisture values during a measurement session. These values are displayed below the current reading.
  • To view only the MAX or MIN value, press the MIN/MAX button.
