2. Chain and Guide Bar Installation/Tensioning

The saw chain and guide bar are designed for easy installation and tensioning without additional tools, thanks to the quick-release mechanism and integrated tensioning tool.

  1. Ensure the battery is removed for safety.
  2. Open the quick-release cover on the side of the saw.
  3. Place the chain around the guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges are facing the correct direction.
  4. Fit the guide bar onto the saw, aligning the chain with the drive sprocket.
  5. Close the quick-release cover.
  6. Use the integrated tensioning tool (often a knob or lever on the housing) to adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug but still able to be pulled freely around the guide bar by hand.
  7. Replace the chain guide protection.

3. Oil Reservoir Filling

The saw requires chain oil for proper lubrication during operation. Use the provided ecological adhesive chain oil or a suitable alternative.

  1. Locate the oil reservoir cap, typically on the top or side of the saw body.
  2. Unscrew the cap and carefully pour the chain oil into the reservoir.
  3. Do not overfill. Replace the cap securely.
  4. Check the oil level regularly during use.

Operating Instructions

1. Starting and Stopping

  1. Ensure you have a firm grip on the tool with both hands.
  2. Disengage the safety switch (if applicable, often a button or lever that needs to be pressed simultaneously with the trigger).
  3. Press the trigger switch to start the saw. The chain will begin to move at high speed.
  4. Release the trigger switch to stop the saw. The chain will quickly come to a halt.

2. Cutting Techniques

The Metabo MS 18 LTX 15 is ideal for pruning and cutting green waste. Its low-kickback chain ensures smooth and safe cuts with low vibrations.

  • Pruning Branches:

Position the saw firmly against the branch to be cut. Apply steady, even pressure. Allow the saw to do the work; do not force it. For larger branches, make an undercut first to prevent tearing.

  • Processing Green Waste/Firewood:

For cutting smaller logs or green waste, ensure the material is stable and cannot shift during cutting. Use a sawhorse or secure the material appropriately.

  • Using with Telescopic Handle (Accessory):

When combined with the optional MS telescopic handle, the mini chainsaw can be used as a pole pruner for reaching higher branches. Ensure the saw is securely attached to the handle and maintain balance during operation.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Metabo MS 18 LTX 15.

  • Chain Sharpening/Replacement:

A sharp chain is crucial for efficient and safe cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when it becomes dull or damaged. Refer to the chain manufacturer's instructions for sharpening angles and techniques. The chain is easy to change and tension thanks to the quick-release and integrated tensioning tool.

  • Cleaning:

After each use, remove the battery and clean the saw. Remove sawdust, debris, and resin from the guide bar, chain, and motor housing. Use a brush or compressed air. Do not use solvents that could damage plastic parts.

  • Lubrication:

Ensure the chain oil reservoir is always adequately filled before and during operation. Proper lubrication prevents premature wear of the chain and guide bar.

  • Storage:

Store the saw in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery pack. Use the provided metaBOX 145 L for organized storage.
