5. Setup

5.1 Power Connection

1. Place the machine on a stable, flat surface.
2. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position.
3. Connect the foot controller plug to the machine's receptacle.
4. Connect the power cord to the machine's power input, then plug the other end into a suitable electrical outlet.

5.2 Threading

The Janome HD4BE features a color-coded threading guide for ease of use. Follow the numbered and colored paths carefully.

5.3 Needle Installation

1. Turn the handwheel towards you to raise the needles to their highest position.

4. Tighten the needle clamp screw(s) securely.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Stitching (3 or 4 Threads)

The Janome HD4BE can operate with 3 or 4 threads, depending on the desired stitch type and strength.

• 4-Thread Overlock: Provides a strong, durable seam, ideal for woven and knit fabrics. Uses both needles and both loopers.
• 3-Thread Overlock: Suitable for finishing edges, decorative stitching, or lighter fabrics. Typically uses one needle and both loopers.

6.2 Adjustments

• Stitch Width (3-5mm): Adjust the stitch width dial located on the side of the machine (Figure 4.2) to control the width of your overlock stitch.
• Differential Feed: Use the differential feed dial (Figure 4.2) to prevent stretching or puckering on various fabrics. A setting above 1.0 stretches the fabric, while a setting below 1.0 gathers it.
• Presser Foot Pressure: The external dial allows adjustment of the presser foot pressure, which is crucial for handling different fabric thicknesses. Increase pressure for thin fabrics and decrease for thick fabrics.
• Thread Tension: Adjust the external tension dials for each thread to achieve a balanced stitch. Refer to your manual's specific tension settings for different stitch types.

6.3 Rolled Hem (Festoon Stitch)

To create a rolled hem, specific adjustments are required, including changing the stitch finger and tension settings. Consult the detailed instructions in your full manual for precise steps.

6.4 Disabling the Cutter

The integrated cutting system can be disengaged when you do not wish to trim fabric edges. Refer to the machine's internal mechanism (Figure 4.3) for the lever or switch to deactivate the cutter. Ensure the cutter is in the correct position for your desired operation.

7.1 Cleaning
