3. Operating Instructions
The SmallRig NATO Top Handle is designed for versatile camera operation and accessory mounting.
3.1 Ergonomic Grip
The handle features a silicone part with a 4-finger texture, providing a comfortable and anti-slip grip. This design is particularly beneficial for achieving stable low-angle shots and reducing arm strain during prolonged use.

3.2 Accessory Mounting Points
The handle offers multiple options for attaching external devices:
- Cold Shoe Mounts: Five built-in cold shoe mounts (three at the front, two at the rear) allow for simultaneous connection of accessories such as LED lights, monitors, microphones, or wireless transmitters.
- Threaded Holes: Ten 1/4-inch threaded holes and two 3/8-inch locating holes for ARRI standard accessories provide additional mounting flexibility for items like monitor mounts (e.g., SmallRig 2903B) and magic arms (e.g., SmallRig 2066B).

4. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SmallRig NATO Top Handle, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Wipe the handle with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and debris. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the aluminum alloy, silicone grip, or stainless steel components.
- Storage: Store the handle in a dry, clean environment away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight when not in use.
- Inspection: Periodically check all screws and connections to ensure they remain tight. Retighten as necessary to maintain stability.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your SmallRig NATO Top Handle, consider the following:
- Handle Not Secure on NATO Rail: Ensure the built-in knob is fully tightened. If the handle still feels loose, check for any obstructions on the NATO rail or within the handle's clamping mechanism.
- Compatibility with Third-Party NATO Rails: While designed to be universal, some third-party NATO rails or even other SmallRig rails may have slight variations in dimensions that could affect the handle's secure locking mechanism. Always test the connection thoroughly before use. If the handle slides even when tightened, it may not be fully compatible with that specific rail.
- Balance Issues with Accessories: The handle is lightweight (144g / 0.31lbs) but can support a payload of up to 10kg (22lbs). However, attaching heavy accessories, especially an external monitor, might shift the center of gravity of your camera rig. Adjust the position of the handle on the NATO rail or redistribute accessory weight to achieve optimal balance.
- Damaged Components: If any part of the handle or NATO rail appears damaged, discontinue use and contact SmallRig support for assistance.
