Safety Information
WARNING: Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service, or maintenance can cause property damage, injury, or death. Read this manual thoroughly before installing or servicing this water heater.
- Ensure all electrical connections are made by a qualified electrician and comply with local codes. This unit requires a 240-Volt electrical connection.
- Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.
- The water heater must be installed indoors on a level surface.
- A temperature and pressure relief valve (T&P valve) is factory installed and must not be removed or tampered with.
- Hot water can cause severe burns. Exercise caution when setting water temperature and using hot water.
Setup and Installation
Installation should be performed by a qualified professional in accordance with all local plumbing and electrical codes.
Location Requirements
- Install the water heater indoors in a location protected from freezing temperatures.
- Ensure the floor is capable of supporting the weight of the water heater when full (approximately 425.6 lbs).
- Provide adequate clearance for servicing and maintenance.
Plumbing Connections
- Connect the cold water inlet and hot water outlet using 3/4 inch water connections.
- Ensure the temperature and pressure relief valve (T&P valve) is properly piped to an adequate drain.
- Flush the tank before connecting to the water supply to remove any sediment.
Electrical Connections
- This water heater requires a dedicated 240-Volt AC electrical circuit.
- Ensure the circuit breaker and wiring are appropriately sized for 4500-Watt heating elements (18.75 Amps).
- Follow all wiring diagrams provided with the unit and local electrical codes.
Operating Instructions
Initial Startup
- Ensure the water heater tank is completely filled with water before turning on power. Open a hot water faucet in your home to allow air to escape until water flows steadily.
- Once the tank is full, close the hot water faucet.
- Turn on the electrical power to the water heater at the circuit breaker.
Temperature Adjustment
The water heater is equipped with an automatic thermostat that maintains the water at your desired temperature. The thermostat is typically located behind an access panel on the side of the tank.
- To adjust the temperature, turn off power to the water heater at the circuit breaker.
- Carefully remove the access panel(s) to expose the thermostat(s).
- Use a flathead screwdriver to adjust the temperature dial. The recommended temperature setting for most households is 120°F (49°C) to balance comfort and energy efficiency while minimizing the risk of scalding.
- Replace the access panel(s) and restore power.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your water heater.
Anode Rod Inspection and Replacement
The water heater includes a premium grade anode rod designed to protect the tank from corrosion. The anode rod should be inspected annually and replaced if significantly depleted. Consult a qualified plumber for this service.
Draining and Flushing the Tank
To remove sediment buildup, it is recommended to drain and flush the water heater tank annually. Sediment buildup can reduce efficiency and tank life.
- Turn off power to the water heater at the circuit breaker.
- Turn off the cold water supply to the water heater.
- Connect a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the tank and route it to a suitable drain.
- Open the drain valve and open a hot water faucet in your home to allow air into the tank, facilitating drainage.
- Once the tank is empty, briefly open the cold water supply valve to flush out any remaining sediment. Close the cold water supply.
- Close the drain valve, remove the hose, and refill the tank before restoring power.
Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve (T&P Valve)
Test the T&P valve at least once a year by lifting the lever. Water should discharge from the drain pipe. If no water discharges, or if the valve does not reseat properly, replace the valve immediately. Exercise caution as discharged water will be hot.
Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues. For problems not listed here, or if solutions do not resolve the issue, contact a qualified service technician.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No hot water | No power to unit; tripped circuit breaker; faulty heating element; thermostat issue. | Check circuit breaker; ensure unit is plugged in; consult technician for element/thermostat replacement. |
| Not enough hot water | Thermostat set too low; one heating element failed; excessive hot water usage; sediment buildup. | Adjust thermostat higher; consult technician for element check; reduce hot water demand; drain and flush tank. |
| Water too hot | Thermostat set too high. | Lower thermostat setting. |
| Leaking water heater | Loose connections; T&P valve discharge; tank leak. | Tighten connections; check T&P valve; a tank leak usually requires replacement. Contact a plumber immediately. |
