Setup and Installation
Wiring Diagram
A typical wiring setup for the WDX2000.1 amplifier includes connections for power, ground, remote turn-on, and speaker output. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
- Power Connection: Connect a suitable gauge power wire (e.g., 0 or 4 AWG) from the amplifier's +12V terminal to the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery. An inline fuse holder (not included) must be installed within 18 inches of the battery.
- Ground Connection: Connect a suitable gauge ground wire from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. The ground point should be as short as possible and provide a solid electrical connection.
- Remote Turn-On: Connect a remote turn-on wire from the amplifier's REM terminal to the remote output of your head unit. This wire signals the amplifier to turn on when the head unit is active.
- RCA Input: Connect RCA cables from your head unit's pre-amp outputs to the amplifier's RCA input jacks.
- Speaker Output: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Ensure the total impedance of the connected speakers matches the amplifier's stable operating impedance (1 Ohm minimum for this model).
Mounting the Amplifier
Choose a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and away from direct heat sources. Secure the amplifier using the provided mounting hardware.
Operating Instructions
Initial Power-Up
After all connections are made, reconnect the vehicle's battery. The amplifier's power indicator LED should illuminate. If it does not, recheck all connections and the fuse.
Gain Adjustment
The gain control (LEVEL) on the amplifier matches the output voltage of your head unit. Start with the gain set to minimum. Play a familiar piece of music at a moderate volume on your head unit. Slowly increase the amplifier's gain until you hear distortion, then back off slightly. This ensures maximum clean output.
Crossover Settings
The WDX2000.1 features a Low Pass Filter (LPF) and Subsonic Filter. Adjust these settings to optimize the amplifier's output for your subwoofer(s) and vehicle acoustics.
- LPF (Low Pass Filter): This filter allows only frequencies below the set point to pass through to the subwoofer. A common starting point is 80-100 Hz.
- Subsonic Filter: This filter removes extremely low frequencies that are below the audible range and can cause damage to subwoofers. Set it slightly below your subwoofer's tuning frequency or around 25-30 Hz.
Bass Boost
The amplifier includes a variable bass boost feature. Use this sparingly and with caution, as excessive bass boost can lead to distortion and potential damage to your speakers.
Maintenance
- Keep the amplifier clean and free of dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier to prevent overheating.
- Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion.
- Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on the amplifier's surface.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Amplifier does not turn on | No power, ground, or remote connection; Blown fuse | Check all power, ground, and remote wires. Verify fuse is intact. |
| No sound output | No input signal; Speaker wires disconnected; Amplifier in protect mode | Check RCA connections. Verify speaker wiring. Check for short circuits in speaker wires. |
| Distorted sound | Gain set too high; Improper crossover settings; Speaker impedance mismatch | Reduce gain. Adjust LPF/Subsonic settings. Verify speaker impedance. |
| Amplifier overheats | Insufficient ventilation; Low impedance load; Prolonged high-volume use | Ensure proper airflow. Check speaker impedance. Reduce volume or allow cool-down. |
