4. Operating Instructions (P.A.S.S. Method)

In the event of a fire, remember the P.A.S.S. method for effective fire extinguisher operation:

  1. P - Pull the Pin: Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you. Pull the safety pin from the handle. The tamper seal will break.
  2. A - Aim at the Base of the Fire: Stand back approximately 8 feet from the fire. Aim the nozzle or hose at the base of the fire, not the flames.
  3. S - Squeeze the Lever: Squeeze the operating lever slowly and evenly to discharge the extinguishing agent.
  4. S - Sweep Side to Side: Sweep the nozzle from side to side, covering the entire area of the fire. Continue until the fire is completely out. Watch the area in case of re-ignition.

  • Monthly Inspection:
    • Check the pressure gauge: The needle should be in the green "Charged" area.
    • Inspect for physical damage: Look for dents, corrosion, or a clogged nozzle.
    • Ensure the safety pin is intact and the tamper seal is unbroken.
    • Verify the extinguisher is easily accessible and its path is unobstructed.
  • Professional Servicing: The Kidde Pro 460 is refillable and reusable. After any use, or if the pressure gauge indicates a loss of pressure, the extinguisher must be recharged by a certified fire equipment professional.
  • Manufacturing Date: The manufacturing date is located on the bottom of the cylinder. Service is required every 6 years from this date, or after each use if used prior to the 6-year date.
