4. Operating Instructions (P.A.S.S. Method)
In the event of a fire, remember the P.A.S.S. method for effective fire extinguisher operation:
- P - Pull the Pin: Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you. Pull the safety pin from the handle. The tamper seal will break.
- A - Aim at the Base of the Fire: Stand back approximately 8 feet from the fire. Aim the nozzle or hose at the base of the fire, not the flames.
- S - Squeeze the Lever: Squeeze the operating lever slowly and evenly to discharge the extinguishing agent.
- S - Sweep Side to Side: Sweep the nozzle from side to side, covering the entire area of the fire. Continue until the fire is completely out. Watch the area in case of re-ignition.
