4. Installation

Installation of the BOTHSTAR YJ20 electronic door knob is designed to be straightforward and can typically be completed with a screwdriver. Follow the steps below for a successful installation.

4.1 Prepare Your Door

  • Ensure your door thickness is between 1-3/8" and 2-1/2".
  • Adjust the latch to either 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset as required for your door.
  • Remove any existing door hardware.

4.2 Install the Latch and Strike Plate

  1. Insert the latch into the door edge and secure it with screws.
  2. Install the strike plate and plastic box on the door frame, aligning them with the latch.

4.3 Install the Exterior and Interior Knobs

  1. Carefully route the cable from the exterior knob through the door hole to connect with the interior knob.
  2. Position the exterior knob, ensuring the spindle aligns with the latch mechanism.
  3. Place the interior knob, connecting the cable and aligning the mounting posts.
  4. Secure both knobs with the provided screws. Ensure the rubber rings are properly seated during assembly to protect against moisture.

4.4 Insert Batteries

  • Open the battery cover on the interior knob.
  • Insert 4 new AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Close the battery cover. The lock will emit a sound indicating it is powered on.

5. Operation

The BOTHSTAR YJ20 offers various features for convenient and secure access.

5.1 Initial Setup and Master Code

Upon first power-up, the lock will be in factory default mode. You must set a Master Code before programming any user codes.

  1. Press the 'Program' button (usually located on the interior side).
  2. Enter your desired Master Code (1-15 digits).
  3. Press the 'Lock' button (or checkmark/confirm button).
  4. Repeat the Master Code and press 'Lock' again to confirm.

Keep your Master Code confidential and store it in a safe place.

5.2 Programming User Codes

You can program up to 50 unique user codes.

  1. Press the 'Program' button.
  2. Enter the Master Code and press 'Lock'.
  3. Enter a new User Code (1-15 digits).
  4. Press 'Lock'.
  5. Repeat the User Code and press 'Lock' again to confirm.

5.3 Unlocking the Door

  • Using a Passcode: Enter a valid User Code or Master Code on the keypad, then turn the knob to open the door.
  • Using a Key: Insert the physical key into the keyhole and turn to unlock.

5.4 Locking the Door

  • Automatic Lock: The lock will automatically engage after 4 seconds of being unlocked. This timer can be adjusted from 2 seconds to 12 hours in the settings.
  • Manual Lock: To manually lock the door, simply turn the knob from the inside or outside.

In case the batteries completely drain, you can temporarily power the lock using a USB-C cable connected to a power bank. The USB-C port is located on the bottom of the exterior knob.
