The 3M Xtract Portable Dust Extractor and Electric Random Orbital Sander Bundle is designed for efficient and virtually dust-free sanding in industrial environments. This system combines a powerful 9-gallon (35-liter) dust extractor with a 5-inch, 3/16-inch orbit electric random orbital sander. The dust extractor features HEPA filters and automatic filter cleaning, ensuring a cleaner workspace. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating power tools. Read and understand all instructions before use. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in serious injury or property damage.
- Eye Protection: Always wear approved eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) to protect against flying debris.
- Respiratory Protection: Despite the dust extraction capabilities, always wear appropriate respiratory protection (e.g., N95 respirator) to prevent inhalation of fine dust particles.
- Hearing Protection: Wear hearing protection during extended use to prevent noise-induced hearing loss.
- Work Area: Ensure your work area is clean, well-lit, and free from obstructions. Keep bystanders and children away.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the tool's requirements (110V). Do not operate in wet conditions. Inspect cords for damage before each use.
- Dust Extraction: Always use the dust extractor or an equivalent central vacuum system with the sander. Operating the sander without proper dust extraction can lead to overheating and premature tool failure, in addition to creating an unsafe environment.

Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the dust extractor, sander, and accessories for any signs of damage. If any components are damaged or missing, do not operate the unit and contact 3M customer support.
2. Dust Extractor Setup
- Ensure the dust extractor is placed on a stable, level surface.
- Verify that the HEPA filters are correctly installed. The dust extractor includes two HEPA filter cartridges.
- Attach the poly filter bag inside the dust extractor if not already installed.
- Connect the conductive hose to the dust extractor's inlet port.

3. Sander Setup and Connection
- Ensure the sander's power cord is unplugged before attaching the dust hose.
- Attach the 1-inch external threaded vacuum hose (sold separately) to the rear threaded attachment of the sander. This connection is designed for easy and secure attachment/detachment.
- Securely connect the other end of the vacuum hose to the dust extractor.
- Attach a 3M Xtract Net Disc to the sander's pad. These discs are engineered to work optimally with the dust extraction system, allowing up to 97% dust extraction.

Operating Instructions
1. Powering On/Off
- Plug the sander's power cord into a 110V outlet.
- The dust extractor features automatic on/off compatibility with both pneumatic and electric sanders. When the sander is turned on, the dust extractor will automatically activate.
- To turn on the sander, press the power button located on the top of the tool.
- To turn off the sander, press the power button again. The dust extractor will automatically shut off shortly after the sander.

2. Speed Settings
- The sander offers 7 speed settings, allowing for precise control over material removal.
- Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the sander to adjust the speed. Higher speeds are more aggressive and suitable for rapid material removal, while lower speeds are ideal for fine finishing.
3. Sanding Techniques
- Flat Surfaces: For flat surfaces, apply even pressure and move the sander in overlapping passes. The precision-balanced motor helps maintain smooth operation.
- Curved or Irregular Surfaces: The sander's design allows for effective sanding on curved items. Maintain consistent contact with the surface, even at angles, to ensure continuous rotation and optimal sanding performance.
- Dust Extraction: Always ensure the dust extractor is connected and operating. The system is designed to extract up to 97% of dust when used with 3M Xtract Net Discs, contributing to a cleaner and safer work environment.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your 3M Xtract system.
- Filter Cleaning/Replacement: The dust extractor features automatic filter cleaning. Periodically check the HEPA filters and replace them as needed to maintain optimal dust extraction efficiency.
- General Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the sander and dust extractor with a clean, dry cloth to remove any accumulated dust or debris. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Sander Pad Inspection: Regularly inspect the sander's pad for wear or damage. Replace worn pads to ensure effective sanding and proper disc adhesion.
- Cord Inspection: Check the power cords for any cuts, fraying, or damage. Replace damaged cords immediately.
