5. Setup and Installation
5.1 Before You Begin
- Ensure you have a ZigBee gateway (hub) compatible with TUYA Smart or Smart Life app.
- Turn off power to the circuit at the main circuit breaker before starting any wiring.
- Confirm you have access to Line (L) and Neutral (N) wires in your switch box.
5.2 Wiring Diagram
Refer to the wiring diagram printed on the module and shown in Figure 1 for correct connections. The module supports both single-gang and two-gang switch configurations.
- L (Line): Connect the live wire (from power supply) to the 'L' terminal.
- N (Neutral): Connect the neutral wire (from power supply) to the 'N' terminal.
- L1 (Load 1): Connect the wire going to the first light/appliance to the 'L1' terminal.
- L2 (Load 2): Connect the wire going to the second light/appliance (if applicable) to the 'L2' terminal.
- S1 (Switch 1): Connect one end of your traditional wall switch (for Load 1) to the 'S1' terminal. The other end of this switch should be connected to the 'L' (Line) terminal.
- S2 (Switch 2): Connect one end of your traditional wall switch (for Load 2, if applicable) to the 'S2' terminal. The other end of this switch should also be connected to the 'L' (Line) terminal.
Note: Ensure all connections are secure and insulated. After wiring, carefully place the module inside the switch box, ensuring no wires are pinched.
5.3 Pairing with ZigBee Gateway
- Restore power to the circuit at the main circuit breaker.
- The module will automatically enter pairing mode (indicated by a blinking indicator light, if present, or by rapidly toggling the connected switch 5 times).
- Open your TUYA Smart or Smart Life app and ensure your ZigBee gateway is online.
- In the app, select your ZigBee gateway and choose "Add sub-device" or "Search for new devices".
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process. Once successfully paired, the indicator light on the module (if present) will stop blinking, and the device will appear in your app.
- If pairing fails, try resetting the module by rapidly toggling the connected switch 5 times, then repeat the pairing steps.
6. Operating the Smart Switch Module
6.1 Manual Control
The connected traditional wall switch(es) will continue to function normally, allowing you to turn the lights/appliances on or off manually.
6.2 App Control
- Open the TUYA Smart or Smart Life app.
- Navigate to the device list and select your AVATTO ZWSM16-W2 module.
- You can now remotely turn the connected lights/appliances on or off.
- The app also allows for setting schedules, timers, and creating smart scenes with other compatible devices.
6.3 Voice Control (if integrated)
If your TUYA Smart app is integrated with voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, you can control the module using voice commands after enabling the respective skill/service and discovering devices.
- Example commands:
- "Alexa, turn on Living Room Light."
- "Hey Google, turn off Kitchen Light."
7. Maintenance
- The module requires minimal maintenance.
- Periodically check wiring connections for tightness, especially if you experience intermittent issues.
- Keep the module free from dust and moisture.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the module yourself. Contact qualified personnel for service.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Module not responding / No power | No power to the module; Incorrect wiring; Circuit breaker tripped. | Check circuit breaker. Verify wiring according to the diagram. Ensure power is restored. |
| Cannot pair with ZigBee gateway | Module not in pairing mode; Gateway too far; Interference; Incorrect app procedure. | Ensure module is in pairing mode (toggle switch 5 times). Move gateway closer. Reduce interference. Follow app pairing steps carefully. |
| Lights flicker or do not turn off completely | Load type incompatibility (e.g., some low-wattage LEDs); Exceeding max load. | Ensure connected load is within specifications. Try a different type of bulb if using LEDs. |
| Traditional switch not working | Incorrect wiring of S1/S2 terminals; Faulty switch. | Verify S1/S2 wiring. Test the traditional switch independently. |
