2. Safety Information
- WARNING: To avoid fire, shock, or death, turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box and test that the power is off before wiring.
- Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician or in accordance with local electrical codes.
- Use only copper wire.
- Do not use with dimmable loads if it is the only light source in the area.
- A ground wire is required for installation.
3. Installation Instructions
3.1 Tools Required
- Screwdriver (Phillips and Flathead)
- Wire Strippers
- Electrical Tape
- Non-contact Voltage Tester
3.2 Wiring Steps
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the switch you are replacing and turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a non-contact voltage tester.
- Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and unscrew the old switch from the wall box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch, noting which wires were connected to the line (power in) and load (power out) terminals, as well as the ground wire.
- Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire end if necessary.
- Connect Ground Wire: The DT130-1LW requires a ground connection. Connect the green ground wire from the timer switch to the bare copper or green insulated ground wire in the wall box. If no neutral wire is available, the Green Flex Sleeve on the timer's white wire should remain on, and this white wire should be connected to the ground bundle. If a neutral wire is present, remove the Green Flex Sleeve and connect the white wire to the neutral bundle.
- Connect Line and Load Wires: The DT130-1LW has two black wires that are interchangeable for line and load connections. Connect one black wire from the timer switch to the line (power in) wire from the wall box and the other black wire from the timer switch to the load (power out) wire. Secure connections with wire nuts or appropriate connectors.
- Mount Switch: Carefully push all wires back into the wall box. Secure the timer switch to the wall box using the provided screws.
- Install Wall Plate: Attach a compatible Decora wall plate (sold separately) over the timer switch.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
